It’s fascinating how people have been able to make so many different definitions for the word culture; a word that was thought to have one singular definition. People of all cultures are unique not just in their methods and ways of life, but also in their definitions of culture. One person can describe culture as something that can bring family and a community together, but another person may define it as the exact opposite; something that tears people apart and in turn will rip apart a community. Neither of them are wrong or right however, because culture is something that is tangible. Culture is something that changes with time instead of against it.…

Canadian – U.S. relationship is too superior Have you recognized that our Canadian culture is slipping away? Is Canada too close with America for comfort? As an immigrant, it is obvious that Canadian culture is very similar to American culture. I feel because dominant Canadian culture wants to make Indigenous people similar to them, it drive Aboriginal cultures to desire more visible separation, therefore a lot of Indigenous people chose to stay on the reserves where there is poverty and bad living conditions. Yet, i also feel like Indigenous people who chose to leave the reserves, move to big cities are trying to destroy the stereotypes that portray Aboriginals as uneducated, jobless, always drunk. However it is hard to change dominant culture's opinion right away that's why King is making this promo video that emphasizes that those stereotypes are no longer relevant or at least are not applicable to all Indigenous people, as there are a lot of successful professionals with Indigenous…

I believe that it does matter if we can communicate with each other willingly. As I came from the Philippines, it took me more than a year to learn the basic of the Canadian culture. It took longer than it should be because I wasn't really willing at the beginning, and I had a bit of a culture shock. After a year of my stay in Canada, I started to adapt and love the culture, as well as the people. It really matters if we are willing to communicate, because then it means we are also willing to learn other's culture and to be able to remember other's traditions the next time we encounter them.…

Canada, like most countries obviously have a motive to protect their heritage and to make sure that the culture is not dominated by outside sources so with that in mind, one can claim that the arguments from the Canadian side are genuine indeed. On the other hand this kind of cultural global trade is usually encouraged and beneficial to both sides. The Canadian government was indeed pressured, mostly by the magazine industry itself due to financial aspects.…

To what extent do you think the U.S.-Canadian magazine dispute was motivated by genuine desires to protect Canadian culture? The media plays a critical role in the dissemination and preservation of cultural values in any nation. When the US entertainment industry invades and dominates Canadian media, I am not surprised to see defensive reactions from the Canadian government in an attempt to preserve its culture. After conducting some research to see how severely the US entertainment industry has invaded Canadian market, I found out that, during the time of the magazine trade dispute between Canada and the US, “between 60 and 95 percent of film, television, music, and publishing markets [in Canada] are controlled by Americans, [and] four in every five magazines sold in Canada are foreign publications”…
