Nov. 11 - The impressive efforts that Canadians made during the world war is not to be overlooked. Our many outstanding achievements made during the last three months have proved Canada’s army to be amongst the best of the best. Successful battles such as one that took place at Vimy Ridge, France or Passchendaele, Belgium give Canadians a reputable name as the best-offensive Allied troop. Canadian troops were given the task of being the forerunners of the attacks and we completed our assignments better than any other troop.
During the last 100 days, the Canadian Corps was noted for its major contributions. In August, the Canadians successfully help execute and misled the Germans into thinking that a large-scaled attack was to occur near Ypres, Belgium. Personally, I don’t see it as a problem. I am very strong and able and I can do all the task as well as any other man. I used to think that women shouldn’t be doing these work that men does, but now I’m thinking twice. From my workplace, I am able to see women doing jobs just as well as the men every day.
Can you describe what you were required to wear at your workplace?
In the morning before I get to my workplace, I have to change into my “working clothes”. They were these ugly one-piece overall suits that we had to wear that stretched from neck to toe. We also had to wear these wooden clogs and matches, jewelry and hairpins were not allowed.
How many women are employed at your workplace?
My factory actually have quite a lot of women working because most of our husband and men have left for the war. I’m not sure how many women are at my workplace exactly but I can say that around 200 workers are women. There is definitely more women than men at my workplace.
