Can You Be Educated From Distance

Distant learning is becoming a more popular way of learning. Is distant learning a good thing or a bad thing. Barszcz in “Can you be Educated from Distance” gives examples of both advantages and disadvantages of distant learning. Imagine you getting your degree in and never going to college. “Preparing yourself as a students, more than other, for lifelong learning- for their jobs,their careers and their personal growth.”(Barszcz 160) In agreement with Barszcz distant learning has many advantages and disadvantages. A disadvantage of distant learning is that you have miss out on going out for coffee after class with people in your dorm room ; you miss out on that experience ( Barszcz 162). The information that you grasp when you decide to live in a college campus helps you integrate with society and have a social life on campus (Barszcz 162). “In a survey conducted for eCornell, the DL division of Cornell University, less than a third of the respondents expected the quality of the online course to be as good as the classroom course” (Barszcz 160). In my perspective distance learning is a good tool that could be used in our everyday life. I personally do not like online classes because I need a teacher there to explain to me if i a confused on a subject. People learn differently so it might not be the same for me as it is for someone else. I have to agree with Barszcz on the advantages and disadvantages of Distant learning, I would like to be doing my work in my pajamas but I knowing myself would have to force myself to learn the material given to me. College education requires you hang around until you catch on (barszcz 162) This requires you to adapt like you would in a real world setting, this is an advantage that distant learning can not
