Luckily most of us young adults such as I, are there to lend a hand and help out a bit. We may not be geniuses, but we sure know quite a bit. Social media has widely spread, not only among teens, but also along with curious adults. In addition, adults become more open as of what the world of today looks like and what’s trending. Ogbera, Gabriel ENG 103 First Draft Instructor Michael Dusek The Millennials: A Response Essay Much has been written about millennials in recent times by different people with different views. But of all the comments about the millennials, those of experts Joel Stein, Jean Twenge and Chelsea Clinton stand out. While Jean Twenge labeled millennials as lazy, selfish, self-absorbed, selfish, entitled, narcissistic, fame-obsessed, and mobile maniacs, Joel Stein tagged them as tolerant, confident, open minded and ambitious but also can be disengaged, narcissistic and anxious. (33-34) On the other hand, Chelsea Clinton appears to have a more positive view of the millennial (Clinton).…

As an adult, but also falling into the under 30 category that Bauerlein talks about in this book, the title immediately caught my attention and I knew I had to choose this book to read. In this book the main concept is the fact that today’s younger generation has been dumbed down by today’s technology. In his thesis, he clearly says that our current generation is less accomplished and skilled than the people before them and of course he blames it on the usage of media and things such as the Internet, cell phones, and Facebook. He believes that the younger generation isolates themselves with things such as their computer and their cell phones and they are all only focused on teen imagery, songs, gossip and video games. Bauerlein seems to…

Surely many of us have expressed the following sentiment, or some variation on it, during our daily commutes to work: "People are getting so stupid these days!" Surrounded as we are by striding and strident automatons with cell phones glued to their ears, PDA's gripped in their palms, and omniscient, omnipresent CNN gleaming in their eyeballs, it's tempting to believe that technology has isolated and infantilized us, essentally transforming us into dependent, conformist morons best equipped to sideswip one another in our SUV's. Furthermore, hanging around with the younger, pre-commute generation, whom tech-savviness seems to have rendered lethal, is even less reassuring. With "Teen People" style trends shooting through the air from tiger-striped…

For my independent research project, I have elected to research how generational differences have effected organizational success in the United States. In order to begin any analysis regarding different generational cohorts, these cohorts must first be defined. However, defining the generational cohorts is more difficult than one might think, as George Masnick discusses in his article for the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies (2012). Despite the uncertainties surrounding the cohorts, Masnick defines the Baby Boomer cohort as the generation with birthdates ranging from 1945-64, Generation X (“Baby bust”)…

What is a discourse community? A discourse community is a group composed of people that come together or are connected by similarities, and these shared characteristics can be endless, things such as language, religion, and skin color are only the tip of the iceberg. While the possibilities may be endless most people think that they’re only part of one or two, which is far from true because individuals from all over the world come together and relate over the most miniscule things. I myself am part of several different communities that pertain to my tastes in music, style, and age. When we think of games, we think of kids, immaturity, and time-wasting individuals who have nothing else better to do. Gamification is about applying game-design elements and principles into non-game contexts in order to improve user experience, productivity, education, assessment, mentality, physicality, and or legality. By using gamification, companies can assess their future consumers and employees, and develop systems that can improve their own company. Our future leaders will be Millennials; they will be leading our government, economy, and culture. Their motivational dynamics vary from what people have formerly learned about society.…
