I've always wondered, can someone be scared straight? Honestly, I think someone can be scared straight. People use fear to teach someone a lesson, for example parents use fear to get their kids to act right or do the right things. Fear is a great motivational force to get someone to act differently or do something else. One reason fear is a good motivational force that it changes people's behavior. In the story "can kids be scared straight" the author says "visibly shaken, all of the teens in the film vowed that they would rehabilitate their lives; they didn’t want to end up behind bars" (feinstein 28). They made the kids fear what could happen if the they didn’t change their ways, so all of them feared jail and vowed to change their behavior and ways of life. Then in the t.v. show, beyond scared straight Armando changed his life around after a encounter with fear (corcoran). He went on a trip to prison and the prisoners were telling him about life in prison and he feared that, and he changed his behavior so he didn’t have to go to jail and live that horrible life. like in his sermon, Edwards says, "yea, there is nothing else that is to be given as a reason why you do not this very moment drop down into hell" (edwards 43). Edwards is saying the lost, there is no reason why you're not in cast into hell right now. Then in the T.V. show Beyond Scared Straight Thomas was told that if he doesn’t change his ways he’ll end up in jail just like them prisoners (“Corcoran”).
