Can a Sign Save a Life? On July 20, 2012 James Holmes, snuck in to the back door of a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. He then began shooting innocent people in their seats, killing multiple and wounding many more. It was a late night showing of the new Batman film. The movie started at midnight, Holmes started firing off shots 30 minutes after the show started. The first 911 call wasn’t until 12:39, it took the local police 90 seconds to respond to the scene. This gave Holmes 10 minutes and 30 seconds to slaughter these blameless individuals. James Holmes drove by multiple theaters that night, before picking the Century movie cinemas. Consider this, a criminal feels more protected knowing the possibilities of somebody shooting back at them is far less in a gun free zone. There are gun shows and gun shops in every state, and for the most part everyone there is caring a firearm. Do you ever hear of mass shootings at these places? No, because criminals are not stupid they know they will never make it out alive. If a concealed carry permit holder says forget the gun free zone sign or just didn’t see it and carries the concealed weapon into an establishment, and turns out they needed it to protect themselves. The criminal could press charges if they’re not dead, but even then the person protecting themselves could get in trouble with law enforcement. At the end of the day they would still live to see another day. It would be incredible to not have to worry about children or any friends or family in these gun free zones, but a sign stating guns are not aloud doesn’t stop criminals. These signs are only harming the law following citizen. If an ex boyfriend was upset due to a nasty breakup with his girlfriend. He brought a gun to her college to shoot his ex, and knowing he had to take out everyone else in the class because you can’t have any witnesses. The upset and angry ex boyfriend comes into the class with a gun hidden in some flowers. The ex girlfriend along with everyone else thinks he is there to apologize but, he starts firing away killing everyone. There is no way for anyone to protect their selves because the college is a gun free school. Yes there are campus police but it’s a big college and can take them awhile to respond. There are pieces of flowers and bullet shells everywhere mixing together with the blood of all the innocent college students. If the college was a gun friendly place and the ex boyfriend came in shooting, a concealed carry permit holder would have drawled their weapon and shot back stopping the boyfriend from any further deaths or maybe stopping him from killing anyone at all.
