Northwest officials have issued a warning to students and staff about the spread of influenza virus on campus.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, more than 50,000 cases of influenza have been reported in Missouri alone making Missouri one of the hardest hit states.
However, according to director of the Nodaway County Health Center, Tom Patterson Nodaway County hasn't experienced an abnormal amount of cases of flu. But, he still stressed that people should be aware of flu-like symptoms. Northwest also echoed this in an email sent out Jan. 26 by the Presidents Office sent out a campus-wide email which included a section warning students about the spread of the virus.
"Be aware of the signs and symptoms of influenza," President John Jasinski said in the email. "If you experience any of the common symptoms – fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea – be aware of your potential to spread illness to others and seek medical care with Wellness Services or through your primary caregiver." …show more content…
“It is still highly recommended to get a flu shot, but it will take about two weeks to build your immune system,” Frueh said. “Also, make sure you're getting enough sleep, fruits and vegetables and water.”
