Camp Tecumseh: A Short Story

Improved Essays
Do you remember the first time you went to camp? During the fall of 2014, I had the most aghast time at Camp Tecumseh. At camp, everybody stayed in a cabin. The cabins were filled with the same genders. It was a moist Monday morning with a heavy fog. Approximately at 8: 30 am the morning, my mom dropped me off at the front of Hamilton Southeastern Junior High. I soon got out of the car and pulled my two black, trash bags out of the trunk of the car. The trash bags had covered my bags. The school gave the students instructions on what to bring and what to pack. The only reason why we had to cover our luggage so that we didn't have mud all over them. I said my goodbyes to my mom and walked into the school. I walked straight to the …show more content…
It took forever to get to Camp. The bus was a gigantic version of slow and slimy snail. When all the buses arrived at Camp Tecumseh, everyone was excited to finally get off the bus and walk around. The people who were in charge of Camp, gave everyone time to get settled in their cabins. I chose the top part of a bunk bed. The bunk beds had a light tan color with a long hollow part on where you could put a sleeping bag in. Right after everyone unpacked, we all ate lunch at a tiny brown picnic table. The cabin had six bunk beds, three toilets, three showers and two …show more content…
The instructors told all adolescents, the rules and procedures. Eventually, the day passed by like a cheetah. The next day, I got to meet my counselor, Katie. Katie was nice and pretty, she had brown eyes and dark brown hair. Everyone had to be assigned to a group. The group that I was in with was, Audrey, Joven, Logan and Jamie. That same day, we all did an activity, where we tested pond water. Katie puts food coloring in a vial filled with pond water and the result was that it changed colors. The pond water went from brown, dirty and disgusting to light green. We also went canoeing, I was in the same little boat as Joven and Audrey. While I was rowing, I needed to intentionally look at where I was going. I had the best first time canoeing. When one of the other two girls were rowing, I'd surreptitiously rock the boat to see how the girls would react. It was one of the funniest days of my life! Sadly the day ended. The next day, was the last day of camp. The last day was pretty simple. Everyone woke up, ate breakfast and came back to their cabins to pack up. Soon as everyone, was ready to go we all said goodbyes to our counselors and took

I walked in faster and found myself in front of 2 mattresses they were white or what I think was supposed to be white. The mattress looked nasty, but we needed something to sleep on. Gina and I dragged the nasty mattresses out of the camper and laid the mattresses under the tree. I went inside the camper again and found stale oatmeal, cans of beans, beer, and some jerky.…

These chain of events all start at Coltin and Walker Chapman's camp out in Republic during the summer of 2008 to 2009 or 4th grade summer to 5th grade summer. The drive out to Coltin and Walker’s camp always feels like forever because you just want to get there and swim or going on four wheeler rides. It's different because as a kid all I wanted to do was play video games but when we went out to their camp that was the last thing in my mind. I'm going to talk about the 4th and 5th grade years spent at Coltin and Walker’s camp.…

For seven years, I enjoyed a weeklong summer camp at Camp Ernst. I swam, kayaked, rode horses, and participated in arts and crafts. Each summer, I dragged myself from the sleepy summer rut in which I always fell and woke up for polar bear swims and archery practice. Although I have long since ended this routine, the camp greatly affected my social skills and my perception of nature and of my family.…

Cicadas Camp Cornhusker, ‘the happiest place on earth’ as many people call it, including myself. There is so much to see and do, hiking in the thick bristled woods to hear the water crash at Angel's or Devil’s falls, to canoe at Lake Abel where the breeze gives a sense of freedom, and to be around a crazy group of staff members. As staff members, we do a lot of crazy things, for starters we work at a boy scout camp. But whether it’s staying up late to hug a windmill off of camp property of even trying the food combinations that the kitchen has us try, everything is a blast. For me though, my favorite thing to do was to pull pranks on the other guys, especially when it involves the seventeenth anniversary of cicadas.…

Food in the communal mess halls was bland and portions were small, very rarely was there variety in the food. As result of such small portions, many starved to death due to being overworked with such little food intake. Weather conditions in the camps were brutal and harsh, in summer days, the scorching heat was unbearable in the remote, almost desert locations of the camps. On the other hand, winters in the camps were unrelentless, without proper heating or cooling, simple tasks like using the restroom during the most brutal of times was an ordeal all in its own. Because there was inadequate medical care…

For the past 6 years of my life, I have gone to a sleepaway camp in Burnet, TX called Camp Longhorn Inks Lake. There are many enjoyable traditions at Camp Longhorn. Some of the\ traditions are the mile swim, campfire lighter, early bird, fun day, frog girl day, and marine/marina mud. Although these traditions are great fun, but none of them can compare to the most memorable tradition at Camp Longhorn, Church Mountain. Church Mountain is my favorite tradition at Camp Longhorn and my life has been infinitely changed by the experiences I have had up there.…

Nicole Gao Mr.Isley Honors English II - Period 4 October 21, 2015 Narrative Essay On February 19, 1942, just two months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. Its tone was carefully neutral: it authorized the War Department to designate “military areas” that excluded people considered to be a danger to the United States. But, the order actually had a specific target: 110,000 Japanese Americans living along the West Coast of the United States.…

My first week at the Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation, or Camp Hohn as everyone called it, was probably one of the worst weeks of my life. The camp looked nice on paper; it was described as a 120-acre camp on the banks of the Lake of the Ozarks, with bluffs overlooking the lake and many campsites, all surrounded by a five mile nature trail. However, they failed to include in the brochure that due to the camps size, the classes available to take were extremely spread out. To get to the waterfront, hiking down switchbacks was necessary. Also, the bluff was difficult to reach and had no railing, which offered no protection from the one hundred foot drop to the water below.…

The final bell rang and like always everyone hurried to the door; the hallways instantly became flooded with teenagers; heading towards their locker, talking to their friends, or just simply flirting with their crush. Teens running towards their lockers and teaches trying to keep order. And people shouting across the hallway just so they can talk to their friend, when they could just as easily take a few steps and get to them. Loud and juvenile that’s what high school is, but I would not partake in this, not today! I hurried down the hallway, my only mission was to get to the door and get to my interview on time.…
