Essay On Rehabilitation Psychology: Personal Statement

Camp Manitou is a safe haven for those not usually accepted by the norm of societies standards. With open arms campers and counselors welcome all people of all backgrounds and walks of life. From skit night to the mud hike or cabin time to field games, campers are allowed to express themselves however they feel is needed. If that means wearing a pink tutu or metallic gogo pants around their head, it is highly encouraged. Having been a camper for seven years, being able to work there was a dream come true. Everyday of the school year I peer back into my summer memories of camp and reflect on how camp has changed me. I am an introvert, and I completely embrace that, but also forcing myself outside of my comfort zone is equally important. In the Fall of 2018, I plan to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison as for undergraduate school. My studies will be focused on rehabilitation psychology. Rehabilitation psychology will readily prepare myself for graduate school, where I will pursue a doctorate in occupational therapy. Becoming an occupational therapist is my dream job, and the only career I can see myself in. Helping all aspects of the human condition, from neurotypical to high needs, is something I believe highly in. Over the course of my senior year of highschool, I will be job shadowing an occupational therapist to put myself in the shoes of someone within this field. Knowing exactly what type of work I will spend the rest of my life doing .Holding a stable job and providing a steady incoming is the basis of my goals for my future.
