Camp Lake Hubert Research Paper

I started sailing at the age of six or seven at an all girls summer camp in northern Minnesota. Camp Lake Hubert is an award based, there is a series of awards in several areas. From the beginning, I excelled in sailing, winning races to truly understanding the complex sport. There were times when I struggled, but I always persevered and kept going. There are five awards in the sailing program, crewman, seaman, seaman 1st, mate, skipper; skipper being the highest. Each award takes about four weeks to get, until the last two, which take most people six to eight weeks to achieve. Each session at camp is four weeks long. Then last year my coach invited my crew and me to Club 420 Midwinters in Jensen beach Florida. This is one of the top Club 420 events in the country. This event was the first national regatta I did. This fall I was able to travel to Park City, Utah for a weekend to compete in a regatta there. This fall CSC started a high school race team, I now drive down to Denver from Fort Collins to practice three days a week. Sailing naturally is a very expensive sport from getting the boat to buying the equipment you need to be successful. Because Colorado is not a state that is big into sailing, traveling is a big part of the sport so we can compete against other sailors. If I was to be given the scholarship I would put it towards the cost of traveling to regattas. As of right now my team and I are trying to travel to Florida for two big regattas, one is in December and is the Orange Bowl Regatta and the other regatta is C420 midwinters in February. One goal I have is to sail in college, however it is hard to have coaches scout me when there are no big regattas in my area that is why traveling to the regattas would help me achieve my
