Additionally, my personal strengths are maturity, time management, organization, along side goal-oriented. I am also a visual, hands-on learner, flexible, along with adaptive communication skills. This past Summer, I worked as a camp counselor for approximately four to five weeks. Campers’ ages can range from eight to sixty-four; these people were welcomed to camp because they were born with either a physical or mental disability, or both. My professional experiences as a camp counselor will contribute to my success in both nursing school and as a career since I had to use selective communication skills with my campers, some non-verbal while others rarely spoke in complete sentences, and utilize my skill for quick learning in terms of how to

I am honored to be considered a possible future member of our high school’s National Honors Society. I do my best to commit myself to becoming someone extraordinary. Back in middle school, I was a satisfied member of the National Junior Honors Society, and I would like to feel the same about NHS. I remember knowing how to be a leader with great character, being proud of my citizenship, and serving the community. I still have these qualities today, and, as a member of NHS, I could definitely improve each of these qualities.…

Becoming an AGPCNP will provide me with the knowledge and training to safely and effectively treat adult patients across the lifespan. Although I entered this program planning to work as an FNP, experiences during the pre-specialty year have confirmed my passion for the adult patient. Specifically, I hope to serve rural communities as a primary care provider, focusing my practice on the management of chronic disease in older adults. My passion for older adults is rooted in the experiences I had throughout the summers of my undergraduate career. I spent my summers with a nonprofit in rural North Carolina partnering with churches, social workers, and businesses to complete home repair for low-income families.…

For the past five summers, I’ve worked at a summer camp as a counselor. I met a wide range of people, from underprivileged children to knowledgeable college students. Not only did I teach campers how to make ice cream and friendship bracelets, I made lifelong connections with many of the other counselors. Camp is where I learned what it meant to be part of a supportive community. Although most of us only see each other during summer, it’s an amazing feeling to come back to such a devoted group of people and work together doing what we…

Fairy tales are considered works of fiction because of the fantastically unrealistic locations, characters, and events. However, I know of a place that is equally utopian, yet deemed to be a part of our shared reality. I’ve even been there. I’ve seen nature at its purest, met people at their kindest, and experienced a kind of personal growth that has changed the course of my life forever. This Shangri-la is not found in a James Hilton novel, but rather in Wake Forest, North Carolina.…

Being a camp counselor for a pediatric cancer patient summer camp is the most personally rewarding, transformative and inspiring experience I have been a part of. We are a close-knit family, many of which I consider to be my personal heroes. Proximity to campers and their families keeps me optimistic, and camp memories continue to serve as poignant and powerful reminders for why I aspire to be a physician. During our "off-season", I am engaged with two committees, where I help plan next summer's camp, and visit local hospitals to recruit campers and…

I feel that a personal strength in this domain is through my skill of practicing relationally. My ability to communicate and relate to my clients through presencing myself has greatly benefited my practice. I enjoy sitting and talking with my clients, as each client is unique. I have come to notice that by spending a little extra time with the client, I am able to develop a deeper connection, allowing the clients to feel more comfortable in their care. Also this particular strength has allowed me, as a student nurse, to improve client outcomes, as the clients are more willing to participate in the tasks at hand within the established and trusting environment.…

On Monday, October 12, 2015 I was more than excited to enter the Meyer center for my second day at the site. I had falling in love with the kids during my first experience and the thought of seeing a different group of kids I could fall in love with was more than enough to make my heart explode.
