Cammi closed her eyes and rested her head up against the headboard, ”Once upon a time-. ” ”We aren't here to listen to a fairytale!” ”Abree, you speak out like that one more-” ” It's fine.” Cammi smiled to herself,” It's gonna sound like a fairytale no matter how you put it.”…

During wars, everyone is but a chess piece, a pawn ready to sacrifice itself for the greater good. As a result, people lose their humanity, becoming one of five million bodies. In World War I especially, lieutenants and generals often expended many soldiers, hoping to receive glory or recognition for their actions, without thinking about the loss of personality and unique traits. Although technologies had advanced, these generals still fought wars in a medieval way. However, following World War I, citizens realized the magnitude of death and began to question the old ways.…

This book has taught me so much about how true love never fails no matter what happens. The little things in life matter more than the big things. Also that you should never judge someone by their appearance because they are different inside the things you can’t see with a human naked eye, you have to get to know that person to find the truly special, ideal things inside with the loving warm caring hearts. “People die, but love doesn’t,” I learned that even if people pass away there is still that true love that never escapes the hearts of people that are still here on earth. Just like when Marguerite passed away Eddie still loved her with all his heart and the same goes for Marguerite that even when she was in heaven.…
Finally throughout O’Brien’s story one can see how at times he felt at peace even though he was in a war. O’Brien expressed his feelings of peace by using imagery on certain parts of the story. He starts off near the beginning of the story when he was listening to a story from his friend Mitchell Sanders. He describes the setting around him in a relaxed way. For instance O’Brien says “I remember how peaceful the twilight was.…
There is a warming and compassionate tone observed in this quote therefore, Beverly Cleary is warm-hearted about this memory. Furthermore, this shows some of Beverly’s non-immediate family resides close to where she lives, which displays that Beverly Cleary’s family has not dispersed, but stayed in one place. This reveals that she is close with her relatives.…
“At last you have no decency?” , this quote was said whenever an army official had been accused of communism the decency this person had to accuse these people were as low as the decency of some of these accusers. “ A victim in the end of his own recklessness” (Joseph Mccarthy). This quote about the red scare shows that even though some people even though they may not have known any communist would accuse these people to get the attention off of them. In some cases many people got killed for being accused of communism even if they had no clue what communism was or is, and not only did this rumor affect these people on the list but it affected Joseph Mccarthy because in the end he was reckless, and it ended in destruction.…

In Ta-Nehisi Coates’s book, The Beautiful Struggle, he speaks on the experiences he faced throughout his childhood. Ta-Nehisi was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, which is a predominately Black community. Growing up Ta-Nehisi witnessed and was faced with many street challenges such as, violence, gangs and drugs that were too advanced for him to handle. His father, Paul Coates, worked hard to transition Ta-Nehisi from a naïve boy into a strong and wise Black man. Coates’s experience in The Beautiful Struggle defied the stereotype placed on Black people.…
“He had been arrested, he got drunk, he rode in rodeos, lied, cheated, rolled drunks, jumped small kids- he did everything”. My title of my book is the Outsiders By S.E Hinton. Dallas Winston is a violent character in the Outsiders. He lives rough live because he acts so violent.…
In the short story, The Scarlet Ibis, by James Hurst, the writer is trying to tell us that there is a reason that pride and selfishness are two of the seven deadly sins. I say this because several times in the story the narrator (Doodle's brother) talks about how he is only teaching Doodle to walk for his own wellbeing. A good example of this is when he tells Doodle that he is going to teach him to walk and when he asks why he says so that he doesn't have to haul him around everywhere. Then in the middle of the story, the narrator says "I did not know that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and death.". That quote tells us that he knows that Doodle died because he pushed him way too hard.…
Morrie from “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom says many aphorisms that will make me evolve in the future. Morrie used thirty-one aphorisms in his book and I have chosen three that I am able to connect with. Morrie and Mitch together throughout the book influenced me . Morrie from “Tuesdays with Morrie” reminded me of why I should love, that it is never too late for family, and not to reflect my life off others.…
Chamberlain was an idealist, a firm believer in men, a handsome, charming, and well educated person. He became the epitome of a civilian-turned-soldier, one who has left their comfortable life for his country and turned out to be a remarkable leader. He left teaching and entered the war to fight for the freedom of men, to stop a new aristocracy from growing in the South and to preserve the Union as proven in his speech to the “deserters” early in the book. “It’s the idea that we all have value, you and me, we’re worth something more than the dirt. I never saw dirt I’d die for, but I’m not asking you to come join us and fight for dirt.…
