Firstly, Camera-work helped me understand more about the main idea ‘Humanity and Dehumanization’ by showing me how the Jews were treated and affected. For example, the camera’s showed the Jews in Germany, and focussed on the way they were treated. Like the man who owned the local shop. He was a Jew who lied about being a German, and ended up getting caught because the Nazi’s found his birth certificate and noticed his name was spelt differently. There were many core things which appeared and happened during the ‘Holocaust’ and during ‘The Book Thief’ these things appeared. For example, the ‘Swastika’ popped up many times during the film, and during the ‘Holocaust’ that was the symbol of the Nazi’s. The ‘Swastika’ appeared almost everywhere in the film, like behind the President while he spoke, and hanging up all around the town in Germany. Another thing which happened in the film which also happened during the ‘Holocaust’ were the bombing raids. Every so often another country would drop bombs on Germany, and when that happened a siren went off to warn everyone. Personally I think ‘Death’ made sure ‘The Book Thief’ looked and acted exactly like the ‘Holocaust’ by having all the important symbols and events which
