The Cameo with the Archangel Michael is currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It was created during the Byzantine culture in the late fourteenth century in Byzantium. The Byzantine Empire lasted from 330 A.D. to 1453 A.D. Historians do not know who made this piece of art or whom it was made for. As a result, we do not know who originally had possession of it. This cameo’s intended use was to deflect evil from whoever had possession of it. The pendant should have been worn around its owner’s neck and they would be protected from all evil.
