Camelot In Tintagel

Improved Essays
I believe that the current location of Camelot is in Tintagel in North Cornwall. After a summer fire burned away surfaces of the earth, it revealed hundreds of buildings that had previously been on the site. This could indicate the civilization of the people of Camelot. In Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, Odysseus embodies the character of a wily, crafty, and wise leader through the demonstration of his wit in the Polyphemus’ cave. For example, Odysseus uses his smart thinking to save his men from attack when he gives Polyphemus a fake name: “They lumbered off, but laughter filled my heart to think how nobody’s name – my great cunning stroke – had duped them one and all” (Homer 9.461-463). Odysseus’ “cunning stroke” tricks the other cyclops into leaving their friend, Polyphemus, alone to fight Odysseus and his men. Despite the urgency of the situation, Odysseus demonstrates his wit in this experience by devising a clever scheme to rescue him and his men from their certain demise. In addition, Odysseus once…

Penelope's Stature "Although Penelope's regular epithet in Homer is περίφρων ("very intelligent"), the rare quality of her intelligence, more elusive than her celebrated loyalty, has not received the attention it deserves." (Marquardt 1) Marquardt, in this quote from Penelope Polutropos, feels that the intelligence of Penelope in The Odyssey overlooked. Penelope's ongoing conflict with the suitors demonstrates her cunning and wity ways, but it also portrays her intelligence as a character in the Odyssey. Through Penelope's schemes against the suitors and her maintenance of her social status, or stature, Penelope has proven that she is equally as important as Odysseus in Homer's Odyssey.
