Calypso Monologue

Decent Essays
I have just left Calypso island and as slowly as the time passes by, the more I get homesick and long to see your beautiful face again. When I arrived at Calypso, I found a nymph that was named Calypso and lived on that island for seven years. Calypso gradually fell in love with me. She promised me immortality in exchange for my love, but I couldn't because I thought of you, my dear. No matter how beautiful she was, I still felt unaccomplished because deep in my heart, I still had that longing to see Ithaca and my family.
I can’t explain how much I miss you and our dear son. Also, Penelope, I have one favor to ask you. I really want you to be a bit more patient until I arrive, please wait for me and don’t leave me. It would be the worst thing

I was over ecstatic when Fernando, (also known as Fernie) my best guy friend asked me to go on a walking adventure with him in our hometown of Kelseyville, California. We started off the day by walking in the forest alongside of Kelsey Creek. This forest has a really big meaning to Fernie and I, because we both love nature in every aspect and these walking adventures are not uncommon to us. Starting on the path we both got lost in our own thoughts, I got distracted by looking above me at the the canopy the tree branches created. My eyes followed the patterns the sunlight was creating as it broke through the leaves and cascaded onto the uneven forest floor.…

This poem, "Calypso", by Suzanne Vega, is a poem about the Nymph, Calypso, setting Odysseus free. I think the tone of the poem is lonely, but proud: I feel a sense of yearning, but she is still standing strong and letting Odysseus go. There are many metaphors and similes in this poem. One example of a metaphor in this poem is, "My garden overflows, thick and wild and hidden. " By using this metaphor, I get a lot of images flowing through my mind.…

The Nymph is a pragmatic, but arguably realistic, view of love in contrast to the idealistic and simple view. Throughout the poem one main point that is discussed is that love cannot be based on idealistic fancies or fickle nature. Within the poem imagery is used to portray powerful feelings not of love but a strong feeling about love. In the Second stanza the line is used to convey the passage of time.…
