I was raised by parents that placed an extremely high emphasis on learning, science and progress. I learnt to incorporate scientific thinking and the scientific method in my daily life and thought process, over time this became a natural reaction for me. This has fueled my progress and learning to significant degree along with hard work, however there has always been a component that my parents could not teach me. This component cannot be taught or instilled and one must learn to do it on his own, mainly through trail and error. Although I have been performing this task from early on, it was not until I moved to Singapore that I truly became aware of what I was doing, this was mainly due to the fact that I was finally with peers of better caliber than me. The component that I have found to be crucial towards learning is to be around people that are both better than you and that have a incredible drive to improve. Coming to terms with this once I arrived in Singapore along with the academically rigorous environment allowed me to progress far more efficiently than I had been up until that point which brought me great pride.

Discussion Forum Answer Unit 8 Goal setting helps one in choosing where one want to go in life (Mindtools.com, 2015). Hence, thinking about a particular goal that I had set for myself that I couldn’t achieve, I will have to flash back to my days in secondary school. I remember vividly that when I was to sit for my first Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), I drew out grades that I wanted to achieve in some particular subjects. Unfortunately, at the end the day, I couldn’t meet up to the grades I had set for myself. And the reasons I believe was the cause of these failure were loss of focus, lack of continual action and lack of commitment (Denis Hocker, 2011).…

My interest towards attending Mercer University’s Physician Assistant is largely due to the emphasis the University puts on service to humankind through service learning and integrating volunteering. Being a founding institution that ingrains service to humanity entirely into its culture and academics, there is no doubt that Mercer would provide me with an exceptional opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills of a Physician Assistant providing whole person care to members of the community. Having worked as an Emergency Medical Technician in an underserved community, Kewaunee, Wisconsin, for some time now, I thoroughly understand how important providing effective care to those in need really is. During my experience I witnessed the appalling living conditions that many patients were surrounded by and how difficult accessing healthcare service was for them, thus enforcing medical illnesses to be even more likely to occur among them. I have personally observed how appreciative and grateful many of the patients and the families of the patients were when…
