Part 2 of the book begins. The story concentrates more on the case of Tom Robinson now, rather than Boo Radley's mystery. Jem becomes more mature than him in previous chapters. Calpurnia calls him Mister. He calls Scout to start being a girl, as she also grows up. Scout thinks his wisdom is maddening. Dill does not come this summer, because he has a new father. Dill's family may be introduced later. It remains unknown whether his family is as changeable as Francis described. Even Atticus left the children for two weeks because of an emergency session. Things around Scout changed greatly. Now she turns to Calpurnia for support.

Calpurnia leads the children to First Purchase, a church for Negros. Some Negros like Lula does not welcome white
