In this quotation, it is Scout's and Jem’s first time experiencing racism first-hand. Calpurnia is affecting herself when Lula approaches her. Calpurnia disagrees with Lula’s opinion, as she believes that black and white people should not be separated because, at the end of the day, they are all worshipping the same God. In summary, the character of Calpurnia from Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird teaches many lessons such as to never discriminate against others, to respect one's elders and that race does not matter.
As well as Calpurnia, Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose is an elderly, ill-tempered women in Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird who teaches important lessons;she outstandingly demonstrates these various lessons that are recognized in this novel. To begin with, Mrs. Dubose may seem like a terrifying and harsh neighbour, but that is not always the case. To begin with, the maid of the Finch family, Calpurnia preaches, to never discriminate against others, to respect your elders and that the colour of one's skin does not matter. Another significant character is Mrs. Dubose, who instructs characters to never judge a book by it’s cover, to always face consequences and to think twice before acting. Lastly, the responsible and brace lawyer, Atticus Finch is preaches characters to respect a person’s privacy, to not judge others until their full story is known and to never harm anything that does not do harm. Lessons are a gift for people to be better than they were before. A main lesson that humans encounter is learning from mistakes. All people have to develop the wisdom and the knowledge to make a better decision, to not interact with a problem that they have run into before; but it is still okay if people do repeat mistakes because that is what make one human, taking the risks and doing what one's heart tells one to do even when it is not always the right thing to do. Albert Einstein once said, “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new”. If humans continue to educate and to be educated, they can live a much more knowledgeable life and pass surrounding obstacles much more
