Scout and Jem have almost grown up without their mother around. There are some female figures in their life, but I think Calpurnia is a better mother figure than Aunt Alexandra. Calpurnia is a better mother figure because she interacts better with them rather than Aunt Alexandra. On one night, a deranged dog came into the sights of Scout and Jem. Calpurnia being the protective woman she has guarded the kids when the dog came near. Shortly after she called for someone to take care of the dog. Atticus came and shot the dog square in the head. Since Aunt Alexandra thinks she knows best for both Scout and Jem, she is always voicing her opinion on the ways of how the kids act. Over Christmas, Aunt Alexandra kept saying that Atticus is basically running a zoo and Scout needs to act more mature. Between Aunt Alexandra’s opinions and glares she was a weird way of almost punishing the kids. The First punishment I chose was her moving in with Scout and Jem. The kids do not really like her in the in the first place, and when they heard she was moving in with them they faked a smile and acted like it was no big deal. At first, Scout was not thrilled Aunt Alexandra was moving in, but I think as time is going on they are starting to adjust to the situation. She also would not let Scout sit with the adult because she is not mature enough. That made scout feel bad because she had to sit and eat all by herself. Sometimes when the kids would do something that Aunt Alexandra would not like, she would tell Atticus to yell at his kids to tell them that is was wrong. Atticus would always try to make a joke out of it, but scout said that was more of a woman’s job. When Aunt Alexandra moved in, I feel like it could be a
