Calpurnia, And Radley's Explanation: To Kill A Mockingbird

There are four people in the Radley family, Mr. Radley, Mrs. Radley, their sons Nathan Radley and Arthur Radley. Calpurnia, who is Atticus Finch’s African American maid, said this about Mr.Radley when he walked by their house in the late morning. Calpurnia says. “There goes the meanest man ever God blew breath into”,(Pg 15). I think Calpurnia is saying that Mr.Radley is the meanest man ever to live. Calpurnia is comparing the most evil thing she has ever heard of to the evil Mr .Radley. She is saying that Mr. Radley is the meanest man in the town of Maycomb Alabama. Another metaphor about Mr. Radley is when Dill said “inside that house lives a malevolent phantom”. (Pg 10) I think Dill is saying that Mr.Radley is the most evil man that ever lived in the house. I think Dill thinks that Mr.Radley wishes to do evil thing to the town as a ghost or some type of spirit. Phantom means ghost and malevolent means showing that you wish to do evil things. Everyone think that Mr.Radley is the most evil man in town. At the beginning of my paper, Calpurnia was saying that Mr.Radley was meanest man that God ever blew breath into. I would think that Mr.Radley is the meanest man in the town, even worse than his son, Arthur Radley. …show more content…
Radley “ Had been beautiful until she married Mr. Radley and lost all her money.” (Pg 52) I think Jem means that Mr. Radley took all her money and made her stop working. He forced her to stay at home, clean the house and raise Arthur and Nathan Radley. I think this metaphor means that Mr. Radley just took over Mrs.Radleys life. Mr.Radley controls whatever Mrs.Radley does. The comparison shows that Mrs. Radley’s life got really stressful because Mr.Radley made her do lots of stuff at home. He also made her take care of Arthur and Nathan Radley. You put that all together and that could have made her not good looking anymore and lose all her

n “To Kill A Mockingbird” race complicates the situation of the characters in the book. Race of the particular characters can lead the circumstances of situations more severe. Meaning that the results of a situation would have turned out differently if the character was of a different race. There is an exception and that is with Calpurnia and the Finch family. Calpurnia is the Finch’s black maid, but her race does not put limitations on her occupation.…

1.Harper Lee has been successful in composing an engrossing novel named as, “To Kill a Mockingbird”; indeed the author incorporates many major and important characters, which play a vital role to develop an interest among the readers, but the character which I like most is the flat and static character of Mr. Radley Boo. Mr. Boo was assumed to be a terrible person but later on, he proves himself as a nice citizen. Author Lee shows Maycomb people’s feeling as they all afraid with Mr. Boo, as he never comes out from his house and has no interaction with other neighbors; so everyone spread frighten rumors about him. Radley Boo always stays at his home, which is the reason that no one from the neighborhood ever seen him. Moreover, after hearing…

Before the story has begun, the African American is already accused of raping a white, nineteen year old Mayella Ewell. Many townspeople of Maycomb believe that Robinson is not responsible for his crime because he is a hard-working and well-respected man. On the other hand, they disrespect and distrust the prosecutor, Mayella Ewell, because she belongs to a poor, disgraceful “white trash” family who lives by the town’s dump. The second evidence that proves Tom Robinson’s innocence is found in Mr. Ewell’s testimony on the rape. Mr. Ewell, Mayella’s father and one of the witnesses of the incident, tells Atticus, the lawyer of Tom Robinson, that he does not call a doctor for Mayella on that day.…

Boo Radley is not a bad man, he only seems weird and scary because the people of Maycomb want kids to have anxiety when passing his house. The adventurous Scout Finch, and her family have been known to not fear anything, but fear itself, they know people are afraid, and people being afraid, causes more harm than wellness. The main idea of the book is that the strongest characters of the book try to be afraid of nothing but fear itself. Being…

To Kill a Mockingbird is filled with symbolism used to display different themes. A major symbol is the mockingbird. Mockingbirds are harmless creatures that just sing and make the world a happier place. Lee uses three main characters that resemble greatly to mockingbirds to get her subtle, but imperative points across. One of these mockingbirds is forced to meet his maker, another is forced is forced to kill, and the last mockingbird’s innocence is forced to slowly die.…

In the first part of the novel, the first impressions of Radley are made. Though they are not easily forgotten or hastily changed, they are progressively altered as Radley's true nature reveals itself. Evidently, it is Atticus who first tries to discourage the children from their fantasies about the Radleys. However, through the events with Jem's pants, the neighborhood fire and the presents in the tree, the children themselves begin to realize that Radley is more of a friend than a villain. Although Atticus' attempt at dissuasion is not totally successful, it is aided by Miss Maudie who helps Scout make an important realization: "Do you think they're true, all those things they say about Arthur?"…

In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird there are several examples of people who live their lives based upon their upbringing. The fact that many people grew up differently, is what helped form the novel. A person going against their beliefs during desperate times, realization of ignorance, and a change of perspective after failure, create examples of people who change their prejudices after a major conflict. This novel creates multiple scenarios where a person 's beliefs are based upon their experiences, and the only way for someone to change their point of view is to experience a major conflict.…

The fact that Author Radley was actually a good person awaked Scout morally, and let she understand Atticus words. “One time he said you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them.” The branch line of Boo Radley had been a central one that connected the whole story, and Harper Lee wrote it in a refreshing and adorable way to reveal the essence of the book’s theme. A mockingbird is a lovely songbird that does no harm but goods to people, and to kill one is completely against human conscience. However, a mockingbird’s benefit and innocence to human is much easier to grasp, than that of a person.…
