Call of the Wild The story is based off the life and adventures of a mixed breed St. Bernard dog named Buck. He was born and raised in California as an estate dog who was free to roam the property as he pleased. His life was going pretty good until a gardener who was working for the estate kidnapped him and took him to Alaska. In Alaska at the time the gold rush was just picking up and strong dogs were in high demand. The dogs were used to haul sleds and carry heavy loads of gold. This experience was all new to Buck because he had never seen snow; let alone been subjected to such cruelty. He made a friend on the ship on the way named Curly who ended up getting killed by a pack of huskies. Buck took Curly’s death very hard and vowed to never let it happen to him. After getting to Klondike, Alaska Buck was purchased by two mail carriers named Francisco and Perrault. It took him awhile to get accustomed to sled dog life but he learned from watching the other dogs and from using his own instincts. Through his journey of becoming a sled dog he started becoming more and more in tune with his wild ancestors. He learned how to fight, find food, sleep in the snow, and even how to maneuver the sled. Buck loved Thorton and saved his life on numerous occasions. He also won Throton $1600 in a wager for pulling over a thousand pounds on a sled. Even though Buck loved his new master but he also had a love for the wilderness. Eventually Thortan ends up in an Indian attack in which Buck fights off and kills many of them but Thorton gets injured and dies. Buck is very upset that his master has died but ended up reconnecting with a wolf he had run through the forest with before. The wolves end up acknowledging him and accepting him as one of their own. He spends the remainder of his days running
