Buck loved Thorton and saved his life on numerous occasions. He also won Throton $1600 in a wager for pulling over a thousand pounds on a sled. Even though Buck loved his new master but he also had a love for the wilderness. Eventually Thortan ends up in an Indian attack in which Buck fights off and kills many of them but Thorton gets injured and dies. Buck is very upset that his master has died but ended up reconnecting with a wolf he had run through the forest with before. The wolves end up acknowledging him and accepting him as one of their own. He spends the remainder of his days running
