The Outsiders is based off the author’s, S.E. Hinton, high school year as mentioned in the author’s note. The greasers and the Socs in the novel was inspired by a real-life gang. The book was written in first person as if the reader was the protagonist. The novel consists many situations to what people counter or do almost everyday life. Instead of trying to hide from murdering somebody, it’s like trying to hide from stealing, secrets, and bad work results. Although that Call of the Wild was based off real life experiences, it is based off on a gold rush in which we rarely do in everyday life.
Even though The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and Call of the Wild by Jack London are very different, both theme are similar. In The Outsiders, Ponyboy and his gang would help each other in any situation they can, while in Call of the Wild, Buck made love with his new master, John Thornton, and called each other love names and showed great devotion. Thornton saves Buck from being beaten to death, while Dally prevents Johnny and Ponyboy from going to jail. The Outsiders is written in first person. Call of the Wild is written in third person limited. Both novels was based off real life
