Caligul The Roman Empire

The Roman Empire was established after the assassination of Julius Caesar in 27 B.C.E. Every emperor, starting with Augustus, brought something new to the table that is the impressive Roman Empire, that stretched throughout most of the Western world. The third to come to power after the murder of Caesar, Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus, more commonly known as Caligula, may easily be one of the most mad of them all.
Gaius Caesar was born on August 31 in the year 12 C.E to his father Germanicus and mother Agrippina the Elder. Born to the distinguished Julio Claudians, Gaius was the youngest of six children, and the third born son. He would go with his father on expeditions, who was a military general, at a very young age. He would wear a miniature version of the uniform which earned him the nickname Caligula, or “little boots”, and he kept this nickname for the rest of his life. At only 24 years old, Caligula promised many things to the Roman senate and the people of Rome, some of which including that he would share his powers with the senators, call back those who had been exiled and free those who were imprisoned under the rule of Tiberius. He even went as far as burning all the documents connected with these trials, though it was later found that he had copies made. Later that year, however, Caligula fell ill. His life hung in the balance for a month before finally recovering in October, 37 C.E.
