According to Bernie Sanders in his article " Medicare for All: Leaving No One Behind, " Sanders states that millions of Americans today still don’t have insurance and millions more are underinsured and cannot pay for the high copayments and deductibles that the private health insurance companies charge. Sanders says that the United States spends more money on healthcare per person than any other advanced Nation in the World. Even with the cost being so expensive, the money has not made Americans healthier. Sanders says that we need a healthcare plan that will reduce overhead and administrative costs. Under Bernie's plan, many Americans will benefit from the freedom and security that comes with health insurance and employment. Sanders says that this will not only help people live happier and healthier lives, but it also may promote innovation and entrepreneurship. Sanders says that parents wouldn’t have to worry about how to provide health insurance to their children. Americans would no longer have fear losing their health insurance if they lose their job, change employment or go part time. Healthcare provided by a competing private investor company is inefficient and destructive to people’s health. If you have a pre-existing disease like HIV, diabetes, cancer, mental retardation, leukemia or even pregnancy these private investors consider you high risk and don’t want you. I feel like these insurance (private) investors, cherry pick each individual rather than spend the money to do what is best for the patient. It seems to me that these investors through a multi-payer system are more about the money than they are caring for the patient and their needs.
I look at something like healthcare in this country as a right for all Americans. I believe that every American should be covered when it comes to their health and not have to worry about if they can afford it or not. With a single-payer plan patients will get the same care as everyone else regardless of their financial status, ethnicity, where they live, or the pre-existing conditions one might have. Other industrialized nations have made a responsible decision to provide universal healthcare to all of their people and they do so while saving money and making people
