It was late April of 2012, I was 17 years old still in high school, when I was deciding whether to attend California State University, Fresno or California State University, Los Angeles. I lived in downtown Los Angeles and had to look at the pros and cons on attending Cal State, Fresno. California State University, Fresno was only three and a half hours away from Los Angeles my home town but it was difficult to come back and forth that I had to leave and stay in Fresno. Some of the pros were that I was going to be able to meet new people, make new friends, and be more independent. Looking at the cons I was going to be a little far away from my family and I didn’t like that much. My family and I are really attached that I wouldn’t be able to handle it. They have been my guidance and support through my education that I will miss not having them with me. Before anything I had experienced once staying at my grandmother’s house in Bakersfield, California for a month and it was difficult not to be with my family. That at that time I promised I will never study away from home. …show more content…
I was going to be able to meet new people, make new friends, and make myself more independent. As I looked at pictures and information about California State University, Fresno it made me feel strong and look at things differently as in being independent, working, getting my own money, and studying which was the most important part. But I was going to be away from my family, which made me doubt a lot on attending California State University,

I want to attend SDSU for many reasons, one being how I am a San Diego “native,”I was born in the county of San Diego and have resided here my whole life. All the experiences and knowledge I have gained has occurred in this area. Most of my family live in San Diego so by going to SDSU I will still be able to see them everyday and go to them when I need advice. I would not have to worry in adjusting to a new life or a new city. I know the roads and stores in San Diego, I have visited the SDSU campus at least once a year, for tours, sporting events or concerts.…

They thought I was crazy. I did not want the so-called college life, the parties, the sororities and fraternities. I wanted academics. My peers continued to pester me in asking why I was so adamant about attending Brookdale. Another reason was that I could not afford college loans.…

No one understood why I didn’t want to go to UC Davis. “It’s the best veterinary school in the nation” they would exclaim passionately when I told them I wanted to go to a community college first and then go to Oregon State University (OSU) to get my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). In their mind, why would I choose to go to a community college instead of straight to a UC? All of my friends did. All of my friends went straight to places like UC Los Angeles (UCLA), or UC San Diego (UCSD).…

The average high school student drives a mile or so to an institution they dread going to each day. I, on the other hand, wake up over 2 hours early to drive 15 miles to Loyola High School so that I can pursue my academic interests. On top of that my family struggles to pay tuition and the students who go there are some of the brightest individuals in California so why would I go to this place? I think that my school has prepared me with the resources to confront any situation that I am put in and the skills I have acquired have been enhanced by the competitive environment I am surrounded by each day.…

Prior to high school, my middle school recommended that I attend “Grant High School”, which was looked down upon by my parents due to its reputation. Grant High School only has a 78% graduation rate. My father had been planning on surprising me with an opportunity of a lifetime and began planning since I was in 7th grade. I left my friends and current life behind to move to a place called Oak Park to attend Oak Park High School, which is ranked in the top 100 public schools in the nation and a graduation rate of 99%. I truly believe this is the reason I am here at San Diego State University today, because I was given an opportunity I may not have received by attending Grant High School.…

My sister would be there to remind me that college was not as simple that I assumed it was yet; I could care less what they thought. San Marcos was my gateway of starting a new life with the hopes of gaining an education. Coming to San Marcos I inspired to study about psychology and to show my true potential. My hopes of coming here was not to learn more about my passions or gain the “college experience” but, I wanted to expand my knowledge. When I was a child it seemed that I was always behind everyone else my age.…

The University of Southern California is a top notch facility with premier applicants from every corner of the world, each with something that is essential to understanding them. As for myself, I feel as if my story would not be complete without telling the tale of my rural upbringing. Coming from a modest town of 2,144 residents in northwest Indiana, my day to day experiences have been a lot different than those I would encounter in Los Angeles, California. While going from being surrounded by people who ride their donkeys to school to being surrounded by people who ride their long boards to school would be quite a culture shock, it is exactly the type of adjustment I need to transition into my adult life. Although the environment I grew…

A time I had to make a difficult choice is when I had to decide if I wanted to come to Mid-East or stay at Zanesville. The reason why it was such a difficult time for me was because I didn't want to leave my friends at my home school. Another reason why it was so hard for me was because I didn't feel like I was going to fit in with the people in my lab or my classes. During the first week of my junior year I was really nervous to get out of my comfort zone. I would get texts from my old friends from Zanesville of them talking about how much they missed me and wanted me to come back.…

I do not deny, first time I arrived at the UUM I felt like "Oh God what is it, I cannot do this".
