We observed about California drought. We planned to observe how California drought affected the farmer, because we thought that farmers used water to irrigate their farm, so California drought would affect them severely. We went to farmers market at Oakland. We met with many farmers there and asked several questions. We wanted to know how severe is California drought for farmers, what have they done regarding California drought and what are they going to do if the California drought got severe. When we arrived at farmers market, we found it really difficult to communicate with farmers, because the market is so crowded and all the sellers were busy serving their customers. We succeeded to interview 12 farmers. Some of them did not only answer …show more content…
It was the most difficult phase for me, because we needed to come with definition about what farmers felt. Farmers that we interviewed had different perspective about California drought. It was little bit confusing because farmers felt the effect of California drought differently. It took time for us to be able to really emphasize about their feelings, but finally we have figured out about what farmers felt. We found out that although the answers were different, they were thinking about the same thing. They planted less during the drought and they could not change or make improvement to tackle California drought. The farmers only could adjust their profit margin by increasing the price, so it could catch up with the raise of water price. During this define phase, finally we generated own main question, How might we enable small farms that are hurt by the California drought to maximize their water …show more content…
At the first round, we generated sophisticated and creative idea that might sound impossible to implement. We did the second round to find a better idea. Finally we agreed about bottle that was used as a dripping irrigation system. Based on research, dripping irrigation system has been being used since long time ago by Israeli farmers. It can save water and more effective to produce plants. We combined it with technology that could make it more efficient. For me, it was a very challenging phase. We needed to be brave to convey our idea. Even ideas that sounded too imaginative still could be delivered. This was also very exciting for me because, we could use our imagination to create unique products and I knew that creativity is really important during the ideate phase. I was challenging myself to be as creative as possible. Combining idea between team was really interesting. We came with a lot of different ideas and started assessing each person’s ideas. We believed that by having a lot of ideas from different people, we could make our product more innovative, because sometimes people had great ideas that was never thought by ourselves. This brainstorming process were affected so much in designing our prototype.
We also had a chance to design our first prototype. We did not know before that during the process of designing prototype, new idea could come up. We experienced it while we were designing our bottle. We added solar panel to

Jerry Brown said the state was facing perhaps "the worst drought that California has ever seen since records (began) about 100 years ago. " The United States spends billions of dollars per year treating water; however, we only use 10 percent for drinking and cooking. The pros of using treated waste water for drinking water and agriculture: conserve our fresh water resources, replenishes sensitive ecosystems where wildlife and plants are vulnerable, and help ease water shortages. Moreover, it decreases wastewater discharges and may reduce and prevent pollution. Yet, by doing so there are cons that cannot be denied such as, the increase of cost for infrastructure treatment facilities and extra pipes to control it and finally public perception.…

Being that California has been in a gargantuan drought for the past 4 to 5 years, water has been in short supply in more places than not. Ironically, while farmers are making these claims there are people in these towns, traveling 3 to 6 hours to get a gallon of water to last their families a week. Many believe that there should be regulations and water control considering farmers are complaining that they grow crops to sell,…

Would you rather have water for farmers that require it for their crops and harvest or have the water to take showers and to use the restroom? In California the water usage for farmers and citizens has exceeded the usual amount and it has not rained in months, so there has been a severe drought throughout the valley. The city has run out of water, so they’re obligated to go outside to use the restroom and they can’t take showers. I believe that California needs to control the water wells and add regulations to manage water usage. “Realistically, if it doesn’t rain this winter, we’re going to continue to view a variety of private wells going dry and at some point we would arrive to the point of basically a mass exodus out of this area,” he says.…

Climate change influences environmental conditions across the globe Rates of precipitation, however, are expected to increase alongside temperature. California has been impacted greatly, with numerous severe droughts and heat waves. Several studies have shown that increasing global temperatures have correlated with longer recurrent drought periods and higher average temperatures across the state. This literature review will inspect climate change’s influence on California’s droughts using ten sources published within the last six years by first analyzing the relationships between Earth’s rising temperatures and California’s drought-stricken periods and then discussing precipitation’s rising rates and how it could be affecting drought situations and the ecosystem.…

Since the states founding in 1850 water policies have never been carried out in a rational scientific or democratic fashion, but rather subordinated to powerful corporate interests that include but are not limited to agribusiness, real estate, and finical aristocracy. 3.
