The California Condor is a very unique bird that can not be identified from a male or female. Condors can reach sexual maturity and attain there adult plumage and coloration at the ages between 5-7. An adult condor can be identified by its pinkish or orange featherless head, while the juvenile Condors have black featherless heads. California Condors are very huge birds with wingspans reaching out to 9.5 feet and weight getting up to 22 pounds. Condors are estimated to live up to 50-60 years and breed past 40 years of age in captivity. When flying California Condors don't flap there wings but instead they soar on warm thermal updrafts.
