He places it on a tripod that peered over the foot of his bed as he notices his friend entering his room with a cardboard box. “Don’t you think you’re going a little overboard with this, dude?” His friend, Fletcher Pantoja, says as he moved his brown hair from the center of his face. “Not one bit,” Caleb says bouncing off his bed. “I think it’s just right for what’s going on.” He takes a box cutter and opens the tan cube, ripping the fleshy tape in half. My name is Caleb Winslow, along with my friends, Fletcher and Derrick, we will record my encounters with sleep paralysis,” He sighed as he shook his head, “well, it’s more than that, actually. I have been experiencing constant sleep problems, hearing voices that speak during and after sleep, I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night, not being able to move, but the worst of that, I’ve been waking up in places which I had not fell asleep at, I’d go to sleep at my bed, wake up on my couch, the stairway, or even the bathtub. This out of all of them, is truly disturbing to encounter.” He became to be a sweaty fit of words, but after he told the camera this, he looked down and back up, “My friends and I will investigate my problems and keep a video log, possibly daily. This is June sixth, 2018, and uh, stay tuned, I guess?” He became eager to shut the camera off, but his eyes shot up, becoming wide. “That’s right,” He murmured, “The name of operations for this will be called Lost But Not Alone. My mind might be lost, but I am not alone in figuring out why, I’m not alone in this.” He breathed deep as he wipes the sweat off his forehead. “Goodnight everyone, and wish me luck.” He says, placing the camera on the tripod, keeping it plugged into the charger as he laid in bed, in boxers and the white tee. As hours pass, the camera only watched the sleepless boy, turning and jumping throughout the night, but soon, and quickly, turns off, no excess tape, no static, the film just stops, but when the camera comes back on, during the next light, when Caleb should be still in bed, he is absent and nowhere to be found in his room, but in the distance, an ambulance is heard as the front door is heard being

I had opened my eyes like I had 50 cups of coffee, and jumping out of bed like a deer running from its predator.…

Lori Ball explained her feelings to the readers with so much detail, which made the readers feel very alarmed and terrified because the awful feelings were due to sleep paralysis. It is a situation the readers would not want to go through. The author states that “Because sleep paralysis affects about 5 percent of the population, it could happen to you someday. If it does, it may be scary while it happens, but know that it’s not particularly uncommon- and the good news is, most people who suffer one episode of sleep paralysis do not have a chronic condition like Lori Ball.” (Paragraph 6, Lexi Tucker)…

Edwards Hirsch’s poem “For the Sleepwalkers” focuses on the author’s admiration of sleepwalkers and their ability to trust their bodies in a state of complete unconsciousness; this praise, however, furthermore establishes a metaphor for the lesson Hirsch intends to portray to readers. He insists that we must become vulnerable like sleepwalkers and trust in our own hearts as they trust their bodies out of the control of their consciousnesses. The author also highlights the idea of keeping our hearts unguarded, connecting back to the necessity of trusting ourselves to remain this exposed, similar to how sleepwalkers fully trust in their bodies despite their vulnerable and senseless state. Ultimately , Hirsch reveals this underlying metaphor throughout the poem using the unconsciousness and vulnerability of sleepwalkers to emphasize the necessity of trusting in oneself and learning to develop a fervent faith in our own hearts.…
