Calculus: My Hardest Class

Improved Essays
Calculus was by far my hardest class during my senior year. During this year I felt that all my other classes got easier, except from math. I got a sense that I was going to breeze by senior year and so my work ethic dropped tremendously. However, I still knew I couldn’t let my grades drop for the first semester of senior year and I was able to get a B. After first semester, my other classes got even easier but math kept getting harder and my work ethic kept dropping. I was already accepted into college and I had very little motivation to do my work. Third quarter was very tough math but I used the little motivation that I had and kept my grade from plummeting. I went down from a B to a B- which is not good, but is almost expected from a second-semester

It was February 2015, my class test for AP Calculus. I was struggling with my 2nd problem (out of 6) and half of my time had passed by. Looking at the next question, I groaned. I couldn’t remember how to compute the 2nd derivative of a function. That was when I realized how much I was struggling with the free response sections of the AP Calculus test, I took it into my own hands to study so I can achieve a 5.My teacher had told me that a 4 was sufficient but I aspired to achieve a 5 because that was my goal.…

Please wait for me to catch up to reality. Trust me, I’m trying, but when life moves as fast as it does, it becomes too late and I miss out on yet again another possibility. Please wait for me to think of a half-hearted excuse as to why I can't go out tonight because telling someone that I want to lay in bed and stare at the ceiling isn’t the best excuse. “Strength and growth only come only through continuous effort and struggle” - Napoleon Hill. As a Sophomore I took 1 challenging class, which was an honors class, because I was afraid of struggling and fear of failing. I was almost mentally accepting that I would never have the capability or succeed in Honors classes and AP classes. I began to find out the term “Honors” was just a word the education placed to intimidate individuals to not challenge themselves. To this day this has been my biggest regret; not challenging myself with tough classes.…

The Grades Challenge Freshman year was a difficult year for my grades. I was failing a few classes and it seemed like the harder I focused on the percentage, the farther I got away from it. I talked to my teachers about how I could try to get my grades up and was simply told “you won’t get a better grade.” I was stuck with what I had is what I was told, and they ended up being right about that year. I was worried that maybe something was wrong; maybe I wasn’t as smart as I used to be.…

In high school the words time management are repeated but never really explains. I grew up hating the simple idea of time management, but I have since learned that is means balance. It is easy to think of staying in and doing nothing but studies, but true time management is the balancing the responsibilities you must complete and the things you want to do. This realization has taught me that I can have a “fun” college experience without forgetting the reason I am at a university.…
