Slope is an important topic in mathematics. The concept is foundational across a wide spectrum starting with beginning algebra with linear functions, even in advanced algebra to describe non-linear functions, and is entwined with the derivative in calculus (Cho & Nagle, 2017). Research has identified many different conceptualizations of slope that students attain (e.g. Moore-Russo, Conner, & Rugg, 2011; Stump, 2001).
