Calculus Curriculum

Calling all MIHS Calculus students! (no seniors rip)
A long time ago in MIHS far, far away... there was a math class called UW 126.
This class used to be the ultimate, legendary math course at our school (at least that's what I heard), but Mrs. Schjelderup decided to get rid of it for a reason I do not know. This course is the third quarter of the introductory course in UW calculus curriculum and it allows students to learn how calculus applies in real life. Basically, it is a calc class that you used to be able to take after AP Calc BC (Advanced Calc) You can find more information here: www.math.washington.edu/~m126/math126studentnote.php So, why did I bring this up out of nowhere? Well, our courses registeration is due at the end of the month and some of

Want to dive into the world of calc application? Don't know what to take after advanced calc? Support us in bringing UW126 back!
Well, if you agree with me, it doesn't matter whether you are currently taking
AB or BC, please support us by simply approaching us at school and telling us that you might be interested.
AB students 3rd period, talk to @Derek Wang in class tomorrow...
AB students 5th period, talk to me, @Minje Park in class tomorrow...
BC students, just simply message me via Facebook...

REMEMBER! Schjelly doesn't know that we are trying to do this and that is why we are trying to go talk to her with as many people as possible. Mrs. Adsit said that the probability of successfully reviving UW 126 at MIHS is "not likely, but possible." How about we just TRY... Mrs. Schjelderup is retiring pretty soon and I would like to learn from her as much as possible. If we have enough people, we will organize a meeting with Mrs. Schjelderup, so we can make this work!
(we already have some people on our side)

AGAIN, we don't even know if this is going to work, so don't get disappointed if this doesn't happen. I still think it's worth to

Not only does this class teach students how to navigate through GTCC’s many websites it also helps students plan out there future at GTCC and beyond. If I had had this class my first semester I would have had a better understanding of the classes I needed and I probably would have graduated last spring. Another aspect of the course is explaining the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) and how it works and applies to the individual, which is quite important when you go to transfer. This class helps you understand the college system in a lot more detail and explains and helps the students navigate through it allowing for a more seamless…

In 1938 segregated Oklahoma, the compilation of a white educator and a black community created a rare gem, that until recently has been known only to a select few. Long before The Civil Rights Movement officially began, Emma Elizabeth Akin saw many voids within the ‘separate but equal’ system in which the African-American was forced to live. One of these gaps was the presence of educational literature that focused on the culture and history of the African-American within the United States. Frustrated at this omission of material from the educational system, Emma Akin dedicated herself to provide a series of textbooks devoted to the students she had come to know and love. Through educating herself with the writings of Dr. Carter G. Woodson,…

The experiences in the Biology 230 course will certainly continue to influence me in my understand of and how I approach topics in following biology and science courses. The reason why I say this is that the process that information is taught in the lecture course was a bit different from how some other courses would normally be taught. Comparing this course to previously biology and chemistry courses, this course focuses on the why rather than what is the answer. This certainly helps as it makes up need to find a connection to why some is the way it is, which benefits many of the different topics that are taught through the course.…

Jordan Holley Trowbridge has made a big impact on my life. She is kind, loving, patient, generous, supportive, achiever, humorous, amazing friend, phenomenal braider, and outdoorsman. She always is willing to stick up for someone else, even if she has never met them, she never has put her own needs in front of those around her and will always go the extra mile for someone else. I met her a few years ago at a church service project at a local elementary school soccer day camp. Jordan and I were sent about a half hour before it was time to eat, to get the kids the lunch we had made for them, plus ten full drink coolers, plates napkins, and cups.…

As you have noticed, there are a couple things I would like to discuss with you connecting how we should support the students here at ALC. We need to find the proper ways to help them academically and emotionally. When teachers give out work, usually students don’t want to do it. The answer as to why is because students want work that connects to their lives. Something that’s rationale and relatable.…

Most people think of a textbook when they hear the work curriculum. Curriculum is a scope and sequence of skills and concepts in which one lesson builds upon another. In the Curriculum Evaluation Tool above, the planning a design portion covers the content that is taught, the standards aligned to the content, the districts mission statement and learning theory and scientifically based researched material in designing the curriculum. According to Wiggins and McTighe, 2007, “until we grasp the idea that curriculum has no coherence or power divorced from vital accomplishments related to transfer and meaning, we will not avoid aimless coverage of content objectives” (p.44). Related to the evaluation tool, the inclusion of the districts mission statement and learning theory in the evaluation yields a focus to the relationship between what is learned in the classroom and the environment and culture in…
