In the above warehouse layout given, 9% of the space is allocated to each of these areas. They have got the second priority in warehouse design. The reason behind allocating them 9% of the space is because the items are immediately moved from receiving staging to the storage room. The stage is used only for loading and unloading purposes. Same with the sortation and shipping stage. Items/products are sorted in the sortation area and moved to the storage room. The items are loaded directly into the trucks at the shipping stage. Hence, the receiving staging and shipping staging should have enough room for trucks to load and unload the …show more content…

Each scenario was run with 20 replications to account for the variability within the model. We averaged the maximum cumulative square footage for each month from all the replications for each scenario and analyzed a total of 27 data tables for this project. Each variant has multiple data tables and graphs based on the part type: loose parts, individual dollies, and totes. Each of these variants and part types has data for each of the three delivery rules: delivery on the first day of the station, delivering parts two days before the station starts, and delivering parts three days before their scheduled installation. These graphs provide a visual representation of the maximum square footage required for staging parts at any point in time over the course of the four year production rate transition.…

When I was younger I worked for Claire’s, a young girl’s jewelry and accessory store, and everyday our store received inventory. The inventory we received always came from Hoffman Estates, a distribution center located in Chicago, Illinois. All of the company’s inventory for every store in North America is kept in this one location. This could be a huge issue if there was ever a natural disaster like the example in the book, the Caterpillar factory. The distribution center wouldn’t be able to fulfill its duties and the store locations in North America wouldn’t receive the inventory needed to restock the floor.…

I would consolidate the PE and EL depots, as the cost of running a warehouse is less than the transportation cost to deliver directly to the EL depot from PE. I would also do a centre of gravity exercise to ensure that all the depots are in the correct area. I would decrease the level of stock holding from 8 weeks to 4 weeks, and place orders more frequently. The transportation cost to deliver to the EL customers would be less than the cost to run an entire warehouse and separate fleet. If SGC makes five stops to the EL customers instead of just one stop at the EL depot, the cost for the driver and the fixed cost for the vehicle would not change, the only additional cost will be maintenance and fuel.…

SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES From working personally with the Woolworths company I was able to see how and why inventory was transferred from suppliers to stores. The Woolworths company uses a very simple inventory management system. As a supermarket, having the adequate number of stock in stores at all times is pivotal in keeping customers satisfied after every shop at a Woolworths store. In order to achieve this goal, Woolworths supermarkets use an electronic inventory management system that sends alerts to the specific warehouse when stock is low or is expected to run out.…

This observation can be true because the use of a warehouse can be reduced in a significant way making the overall process cheaper.
