Cal Poly Observation Essay

Since I was in the neighborhood, I decided to visit Cal Poly. Since this school is a College more engineered towards technology and engineering, I doubt that I’d want to go here. However, so as to finish my homework assignment, I decided that it was now or never. Being more into the medical field, I didn’t really know where I’d begin my tour. Thus, I started with the place that I deemed most fun: the performing arts center. As a music student myself, I find it interesting to see how other conductors run their orchestras and also how well these orchestras play. Walking into the center, there was a large lounge, with a few benches to sit on as well as white doors leading further into the building. Since it was summer, the lounge was deathly …show more content…
With that behind me, I proceeded to walk down Grand Ave and head to the Cal Poly library. On my way there, there were a variety of people, of many different ethnics. Additionally, they each had their own ways of getting around this absurdly large campus. There was this one girl who was riding a bicycle, there were guys on their skateboards, and there were people also walking, just like me. During this time, I walked without a destination, and just wanted to sight see. Despite this though, I was really productive. While walking, I would ask students questions, such as their majors. While some students said that they majored in engineering, others majored in Agriculture and …show more content…
Here, there were all types of students just playing and lazing around in the shade. There was a lady who was walking her pet dog, and though I didn’t know what breed, it was really big. There was another girl using her computer, probably doing what I am doing right now. There were guys playing frisbee. There was even a dance group that had bizarre instruments and getups. The atmosphere here felt really relaxed and fun. Everyone was just trying to have a good time. After visiting the quad, I talked to guide, who usually led groups of visitors around. She was really nice and took the time to explain things to me, such as the kinds of things that were done at Cal Poly; which ranged from making boats, to studying plants. She told me a variety of things, that I, of course, could not remember them all. Something that I do remember was the thing about making canoes out of cement and such, and then racing with them to see which one was the fastest. I found this really interesting because of the heaviness of cement, but she said that it was

A few weeks ago, on my way up Mund’s Park in Flagstaff for a camping trip, my dad stopped inside the Northern Arizona University (NAU) campus. We were meeting my dad’s old friend Milo, along with two of my friends, Julia and Sharon. It was around lunch time, so we all went ahead and ate. While devouring our Mexican food, my friends and I asked Milo a few questions about NAU. He works as a network engineer at NAU.…

“The streets are paved in sunshine.” This was the first statement I heard upon arriving at Stanford University. The woman who said those six words that caught me completely off guard approached me with a California-aged smile, casual and relaxed, and welcomed me with open arms. She introduced herself as an alumni of the university and proceeded to tell me about the great experiences she had as a student and the memories she created with her best friends in her “prime time”. As she rambled on, I realized that she said nothing about the stellar academics, the esteemed professors, or the endless professional opportunities offered at the University.…

Transformation is a concept overlooked by many but it is extremely necessary to the development of society and individuality. Freire uses this idea throughout his article to explain the extreme need for students to learn in a way that empowers them to transform the world, not just simply live in it. There are problems faced in both the world as a whole, and UConn specifically, that cannot be addressed without individuals who are willing to bring about change. The model of the new recreation center which is located in the Student Union is a prime example of people trying to better the UConn community. Freire’s article, entitled “The Banking Concept of Education”, sheds light on artifacts on campus that relate to the transformation of UConn…

They are 48 months-60 months. I observed a 48 month old, male. I will refer to the student I observed as "P." I observed from 10:00-11:30 both sessions. The classroom was reasonably big, but the floor was opened with toys and an upstairs area where the students can go and hang up there.…

    1) Being a music performance student here at the University, it speaks directly to my academic and personal interests in participating in this purposed May Term Travel Course. As a classically trained flutist, and one who frequently engages with music from the Classical era, the whole experience would be an excellent opportunity for me to immerse myself in the culture and atmosphere that directly influenced the many compositions I come into contact with on a daily basis. As a scholar, it would grant me the ability to absorb not only factual/historical information regarding composers and events of that era, but also interact with the world and society shaped these people and their works. As a musician, it would better inform my performance practices and deepen my appreciation for the pieces I perform, ultimately allowing me to translate that into a greater and more rewarding experience for the audience and myself.…

While in walking for wellness, I’ve learned some very valuable insights that I didn’t think that I would learn. Taking what I can from this class, whether it be, walking fast, slow, to get my heartrate up, or to just look at what’s around me. I know that there are many things that I can take away that I learned in this class that will help me in the future to be happier and healthier. What I really enjoyed about our outside classes – walking around and observing – was being able to actually see everything on campus.…
