The genealogies of Seth and Cain seem pretty boring a first glance. However, you can actually pull a lot out of Chapter 4,5 in Genesis. I would like to compare and contrast details that I have found very intriguing. First, I would like to talk about a few things that we distant to Cain’s line like how the line started with cain and not God or Adam. Also why it mentions a city in his genealogy and what that could mean. As well as why what Lamech said is so important. Then I would like to show you some points that we distinct to Seth’s line. Like how they were striving to get closer to God and why only after Enoch had a son it says that he walked with God. Finally I will be putting the main comparisons together and showing you both sides. …show more content…
First, Cain line does not start with God in his linage. First person is himself. (Chapter 4:17) It seems like he is very self-centered. Second, according to his genealogy, Cain builds a city and names it after his son Chapter 4:17. We can see today that with city’s also come immorality. For example San Fransisco. City’s also makes the potential of technology advancement because the collection of knowledge. Now we have to stop and make it clear that technology is not bad in of itself. It can be used for good or for bad. We also have to keep in mind that God cursed the ground for Cain. So he was not able to grow food for himself. So a city would be able to sustain him with food because of the collection of people. Lastly because of the of the all the sinful people that were congregated together violence and sinful deeds flourished. We can infer this from the evidence in Chapter 4:23-24. Lamech says “… I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.” Then later says I will be avenged “seventy and sevenfold”.Chapter From this we can see that there was no punishment for what he did. He was as you can say his own boss and could do whatever he please. That show how corrupt the world had

Known as “a monster born of Cain” in John Gardner’s Grendel, Grendel rebels against what he considers a meaningless, preposterous world. Reuben Sanchez of Fresno State University concludes that Grendel gives value and meaning to the world of man and, in return, that man defines life for Grendel. In short, Sanchez explores the development of Grendel and his admission of insanity: his own and the worlds’. Sanchez, however, believes that Grendel must “hold fast” to the truth in a world of disorder. With this in mind, the reader is left with the same question Grendel asks himself before his demise, “Is it joy…

The literary form and genre of the book of Genesis is prose: biblical and historical narrative. Biblical narratives in Genesis show that “God is active in His world” and these narratives typically “chose certain events to reveal God.” For instance, this element is apparent when the Angel of the Lord speaks to Hagar, granting her the promise of descendants (Gen 16:10). In the same manner, this element is reinforced in subsequent chapters (Gen 17:19; 18:10). In describing this book, it is significant to note that most of the characters in the narrative are flawed.…

In Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues”, a particularly important passage that Baldwin draws closely from the biblical story of Cain and Abel is near the beginning of the story when the older brother (narrator) and one of Sonny’s friends are having a conversation. This passage is important because Baldwin plays off the exact same conversation between Cain and God in Cain and Abel. In both stories, the older brother’s do not feel a sense of responsibility for their younger brothers. In Genesis, after Cain kills Abel, God confronts Cain about his brother’s whereabouts. Cain answered, “I do not know; am I my brother’s keeper?”…
