Caffeine is one of the most commonly used drugs. When you hear the word “caffeine” it does not usually have a negative connotation. So many people drink coffee as part of their daily routine, that they do not realize they may have an addiction. Many coffee drinkers do not ever get the chance to see their addiction until they take an approach to quit. I hear people all the time who have headaches because they skipped their morning coffee, which is associated with withdrawal. People need to be more educated on this topic so addiction can be prevented in the first place. If someone is ashamed of their addiction, they may not seek the help they need. The opposite may also occur. A lot of addictions begin simply because the person using a drug thinks, “I won’t become addicted.” But proper education would help to incorporate the idea that addiction can not only happen to anyone, but can be overcome by anyone as well. Many forms of addiction, such as caffeine and social media, have become overlooked and ultimately viewed as “normal”. These people refuse to acknowledge their addiction.
