Barbiturates depressants are commonly use is for anesthesia. These depressants are commonly used as pre-anesthetics, they are used to prepare a patient for general anesthesia. The short-term Barbiturates help patients to relax and it produces a rapid effect of about 15 minutes after it has been administered to patients. The long-term barbiturates may last up to 8 hours. The antidepressant can be used in the day to help patient’s anxiety and nervousness and sleeping pills for the night. (Hart, p. 149).
