Love, loyalty and honor all help fuel Caesars will. By utilizing universally understood factors I believe Behn is able to demonstrate the shared humanity and individual will of everyone. I agree that in certain moments when a crucial choice of fight or flight needs to be made often a new perspective and reasoning is formed. For Caesar the main force behind his fight or flight is love.

His love for Imoinda torments him throughout the novella. The adage "love can make you do crazy things' is applicable to him. Love makes him impatient about his freedom which leads to the revolt. It is his love that makes him start second guessing his initial plans as he takes her condition into consideration and then complies with the Governor, and
