Tall for a human and muscularly lean, as is often seen in [[Thyferran|Thyferrans]], Caelius stands at 2.03 meters and weighs 95.3 kilograms. He is covered in a variety of tattoos which extend from his neck to his calves. The majority of his tattoos were completed on a unique planet, with each abstractly representing the core experience of the culture from which it originated. Caelius has admitted that he can no longer recall each tattoo; rather he asserts that each piece of work represents another life experience. Though he has always held a keen fixation on personal health, Caelius suffers weakness in his non-dominant right arm. Lack of critical thinking does not inhibit the responsibilities of writers, to persuade readers with their perspective. The purpose of literacy is to express the human experience through a larger context. Literacy is often viewed to be limited by its language and how it addresses issues but as our world continues to develop. David Kirkland points out, in “The Skin We Ink”, that “it is important to re-conceptualize literacy as a human practice and expand English education to study its multiple forms.” If literacy was re-conceptualized to the modern era, language, formats, and other disciplines writers have used for centuries would be insignificant to the value of the literacy.…

In “The Existential Anguish of the Tattoo”, I found many interesting ideas, but I thought there was a hint of biases in some cases. Overall, I thought it was a superb article even though there were some things I did not agree with. It was beautifully written and the “Existential Anguish” was apparent as you read on. It gave me a great sense of nostalgia and wonder; it makes you think quite deeply. It was eloquently written and its subtle use of pathos was lovely.…

Oh, lovely, the feisty sister speaks out for the guy she suddenly loves, I guess? How are we supposed to guess that she has feelings for him when she's been in captivity for most of the book? That's beside the point, she had something to say, and the prompt has deemed it relevant enough for me to write about it. Cora bravely thrusts herself to the floor in a desperate plea for mercy that falls on the ears of Tamenund, who surprisingly, doesn't seem to care that much. He does hear what she has to say, which in that time, must have been a surprising and exceptionally just gesture.…

Meaningful Cross Tattoos For Men: A Timeless Spiritual Classic Easily one of the most highly recognizable symbols in the world is the cross. Now while it is chiefly recognized as a Christian symbol, it also has other meanings. The Anhk for example, a cross with a loop at the top, is an ancient Egyptian hieroglyph which represents the life which predates the Christian cross. The Iron Cross, once given as a German military decoration, is now used in tattoo art to symbolize rebellion and non-conformity. There are a number of reasons other than spirituality that someone may choose a cross tattoo.…

In The World Who God Is (Tattoos on the Heart, p. 67) I am a spiritual non-theist who has come to treasure a parable-filled memoir celebrating a vision of God in the world, authored by a Jesuit Priest. In 2010, Father Gregory Boyle, pastor of Dolores Mission since 1986 and founder of Homeboy Industries, serving to uplift the lives of gang members in Boyle Heights near downtown Los Angeles—a thoroughly savvy, engaging, astonishing writer and man, who holds degrees in English, and has been awarded the California Peace Prize—published his memoir. Tattoos on the Heart is a collection of stories/essays/sermons from the hot core of life in the barrio, and is like nothing I have read before. Boyle offers compassionate inclusion as the path to awakening…

With the inclusion of connotations, diction, and formality and the like, Andres Martin also uses comparisons in order help persuade his audience. Comparisons are the act of using something the reader knows in order to help them understand something they don’t. Andres Martin makes the comparison of tattoos to relationships in hopes that it’ll convey to his audience, that unlike the various relationships these teens will go through tattoos “can promise permanence and stability” (para. 9), which he insinuates teen need and are in search of. I believe this comparison is both ineffective and effective, depending on how it is viewed. It can be effective if it is looked at face value, simply for what the words say: something in place of something else or lack thereof.…

Compassion Can Heal Wounds “Just assume the answer to every question is compassion” (Boyle 62). This is a quote from Fr. Gregory Boyle’s book, Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion. From the title it can be drawn that this book often focuses on compassion and how it relates to “homies,” or gang members. Most, if not all, gang members go through a lot of trauma, starting in their childhood and going on through adulthood.…
