Cachelada Leonesa (Sausage & potatoes) This week's easy Spanish recipe (Cachelada Leonesa) is still a hearty one - perfect for these evenings when the summer weather is a bit late arriving. It is basically sausage and potatoes... but by using good quality chorizo and that pinch of saf- fron, it will be way more authentic. Seriously simple... enjoy! Ingredients (per person)

Though a rather uncreative title, Coming out of Church lacks nothing in interest visually. The painting, done by Raimundo de Madrazo y Garreta, was created some time before 1875 in Spain reveals the harsh class differences and cultural norms of the mid 1800’s while also revealing the artists own personal outlook on these phenomena. Madrazo cultivates a scene of gloomy metaphor in his use of rain, and a visual representation of his opnion on the class division through the use of gesture, costume, subject, juxtaposition and light. The end product is both a beautifully crafted piece of work, and a painting that reflects Madrazo’s critique on his belief in the dangers and ailments of class division. Location, location, location; not just important in real estate, it is also prevalent in the location of the scene in a painting.…

Americans generally want to believe they live in a country of safety, freedom, and well-being. They don’t want real crime where they live in the suburbs because that’s only something that happens in impoverished countries and areas of the country that no one vacations to. The truth of the matter is that we have well organized and established gangs in America working with entities such as Daesh, Al-Qaeda, Taliban, Hezbollah, and others right here in our backyards. One of the major players in this atrocious arrangement is La Mara Salvatrucha, more commonly known as MS-13. However, the children of immigrants have a hard time maintaining their culture because once they step in America, they are required to adapt to the American Culture if they want to succeed in U.S. This idea is cruel as well as discriminating the culture of the immigrants. I have read two articles that talks about this type of situations that immigrants go through when they arrive in U.S. The two articles that I’m referring to are called, “ Expression of Maya Identity and Culture in Los Angeles,” by Giovanni Batz and “ Alla en Guatemala,” by Lucila D. Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been? By Joyce Carol Oates is the story of Connie, a 15 year old Texan girl, and one fateful summer day. Through characterization and symbolism the author shows that often teenagers rush into the fantasy of adulthood, never expecting how real it can get. By using the summer to represent her fall from innocence, music to show how Connie feels, and her habit of checking her reflection to prove she’s still young and insecure- despite how she may act, Oates provides an intense look at how there is always more to what is going on than initially appears.…
