Daniel Hale Willams By; Erica Lamb Daniel Hale Willams was a man ahead of his time. Daniel Willams was born Jan. 18 1856. He was born African American.…
R.J.’s wife needs to know that her husband is getting the best care available. I would then explain how the heart has a sac around it to protect it – this is called the pericardium. His injury caused the pericardium to fill with fluids and blood, so the surgeon had to remove the fluid by carefully inserting a needle into the pericardium to drain the fluid. When the surgeon removes the fluid, it will allow your husband’s heart to work better and efficiently. We were careful to make sure R.J. did not feel any pain and he is now going to the intensive care unit for observation.…
Nurse Craig received a phone call report of a patient from Nurse Lucinda. When assessing the patient Nurse Craig should have administered oxygen to the patient in order for her to breathe smoothly. Nurse Craig should have applied O2 and do some deep breathing exercise with the patient which should eventually help the patient feel better. After some time, Nurse Craig went back to Mrs. Jordan and found that she was had in difficulty breathing. Nurse Craig suspected that the patient was suffering from an acute dyspnea so the patient’s vital signs, temperature and lung sounds were taken.…
Ending the prayer, a feeling filled my body as if we would never see each other in the flesh again so race behind her before she made it to the top of the stairs to give her a hug. She replied, “I love you too.” After hours of fighting, I return to my room to wait on my roommate for 7 months to talk about the events of the day. An hour passed and no word. Shortly, there was a knock on the door requesting medical assistance because of my role as a first responder on the Medic Emergency Team.…
Directly observed, participated and managed hospitalized patients in ICU unit. Observed and supervised directly by Rahat Hussain MD, of Memorial Hermann Hospital (1028 bed hospital) in Houston, TX. Obtained direct clinical experience working within an advanced, U.S. hospital under expert supervision. I was responsible for my assigned patients, from whom I took histories, reviewed daily lab reports and overnight events and update their progress to Dr. Hussain during rounds. I attend clinics where I gather H&P and presents cases and discuss management plans.…
The patient wife is upset; because the staff that called her husband to inform them regarding the time change was very rude. The patient was supposed to be here at 11:30 P.M. was informed he need to be her by 10:00; which was not a problem, but when the patient wife asked the staff member why did they change the time, the staff response was I don’t know just be here on time. She also stated that the staff would not give her their name. They patient wife also was upset because they came in early for the procedure; but was delayed after the patient procedure was completed because the room up on floor was not available.…
Starting on Monday my first assigned OR was room 5. In this room the orthopedic surgeries are done. I had the opportunity to watch three surgeries. On the first surgery, the patient was having a repair in his lower leg. Since it was open wound, the preparation was different from other cases.…
My field supervisor was out sick today so I get to experience a new area of the hospital today, the ICU. It was so interesting to see how differently the ICU social worker, Lynne, works in comparison to Jamie. There is a lot less patient interaction since the ICU patients are in much worse conditions and a majority of them were not even conscious. Lynne’s case load seems much more complicated as she works with families and other agencies.…
Nurse’s role is to care for the patients, support and recovery them from disease or any medical condition they came with and improving their quality of lives and get them back to community to function as normal. But not always things go smoothly as planed. Nurses work with other multi-disciplinary team to achieve the goal. Nurses encounter loads of ups and downs therefore Nurses have an immense responsibility to recognizing and rescuing the deteriorating patients. It’s a challenging work, which comes with plenty of clinical experiences and great deal of knowledge.…
I feel that the preoperative briefing that took place before the patient arrived is what allowed the team to work so well in this emergency case, all of the details that was known about the patient was shared to the entire theatre team, with enough time to be able to prepare and collect all the appropriate equipment that was needed but also equipment that was possibile needed so that all avenues of care was covered and prepared. Bethune (2011) stated that teamwork, communication, and efficiency in the operating theatre is widely recognised to be suboptimal. Poor communication is the single biggest cause of medical error. The surgical operating theatre is a potentially highly stressed environment where poor communication can lead to fatal errors.…
This year I am currently going to Pierce County Skills Center, it gives me the opportunity to get my feet into the medical field. Ever since I was a little kid I knew that I was going to go into the medical field. The class that I am in is called medical careers, in that class you learn a lot about the medical field such medical terminology, skills, how to talk to patients and much more. On April 17 I had followed a registered nurse and a CNA around a retirement home. She had showed me her ways of doing things.…
On arrival to ED, prompt identification and intervention is essential to ease both the physical and emotional symptom of breathlessness and optimise outcome. When the patient presented with symptoms of cardiac failure an initial assessment, lab test and diagnostic test need to be carried out in order to confirm the diagnosis. Initial assessment of patient’s medical history and physical examination is the most important piece. Nurses are often the first person who obtained data from the patient about their history. Task it is important to gather the entire patient’s information knowing the risk factors, history of cardiac events and respond to previous treatment since this is not the first cardiac event for Mrs J.…
When the patient was in labor and began pushing, I aided in supporting one of her legs while the nurse supported the other. I think it was truly amazing to see a child being brought into the world. The postpartum care was also a teamwork. While my preceptor was getting the ice pack, I filled the peri-bottle with warm water and placed dry tower on the bathroom floor to prevent falls. I remembered from class lecture to check for clots in the urine because abnormal size (golf ball size) can be concerning.…
I learned and observed so many things. I only had one other task for the day besides observing. I was supposed to fetch warm towels for every patient who needed one. The first patient thanked me so much. It made me feel so good when giving her that blanket, such a small task, comforted her so much.…
The First Clinical Experience It was an early morning in April. My friends and I arrived 45 minutes early to our long term care facility in Scottsdale, Arizona. The three of us sat in my car and anxiously awaited stepping foot into the care facility as we had no idea what to expect. I began to wonder what the patients would be like and how I would care for them.…
