CPAP Therapy Case Study

Decent Essays
John was seen today now seven months into CPAP therapy for his very severe obstructive sleep apnoea. He continues to do well with his average use of 4.5 hours/night. He continues on with the high pressure of 19cnH2O and he is tolerating this well. His average AHI of 2.4 events/hr is suggesting good control of his obstructive sleep apnoea.

He is using the machine every night and his reduces usage is due to occasional nights when he takes the mask off in the middle of the night without knowing it. There are other nights though that he sleep well and he is using it for up to eight hours a night and he certainly does feel better on the days after nights when he has used it well. There does not appear to be any significant mask of machine issues to account for why he might be taking it off in the middle of the night and in my experience, this does seem to settle down within the first 12-18 months. As such, John will push on with treatment as is.

It was a sweltering day in the summer of 2009. The dawn of the day started like any other day, with the rising sun and the bright blue sky; however, it ended like no other day. I woke up to the sounds of chatter that came from downstairs. It was noisier than usual because we had family from California and Canada over at our house. This happened due to the fact that our two-story house had unoccupied rooms, but there was an influx of people, so my brother and I had to surrender the room that we shared and sleep in our parents’ room.…
