COPPA Should Be Banned

The government is aware of the constant predators roaming around and the took initiative by imposing laws such as the COPPA. The COPPA stands for Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, it “was put in place to protect kids’ personal information on websites and online services —including apps — that are directed to children under 13” ( Consumer Information). This then helps because it asks parents permission for their children’s information. If a parent feels comfortable with the site or app they then can give permission to use it or not allow their child to use it (Consumer Information). Even though they’re some websites that are safe such as, “Nick Jr, PBS Kids, and PlayHouse Disney” (Child Development). These websites are safe due to the fact that their target group is children and they understand the websites parents want for their child. Now if a child doesn’t listen and goes to a website that isn’t allowed they need to be punished. A punishment may be to ban the use of the internet in general. This is effective because it stops a child from going on forbidden websites and also shows them how serious a parent is about going on websites that they ban (Child Development). Something parents never think of while protecting their children from danger is that it maybe living in the same house as them. Cyber bullying is something parents fear happening to their child. Something that they don’t realize is that their child might be the one causing it. So they are now given the burden of teaching their child to be nice or help them stop being bullied.
