Nothing hurted me more than seeing one my favorite resident go from looking at me with bright blue eyes and when I entered the room to having no heartbeat, and a ice cold fingers with the only warm places being his pulse sites.
It was a regular day at work for me. I clocked in at 6:30pm and was ready to clock out at 7:15am. I took the stairs up to the seventh floor, and waited for the CNA I was releaving to come and give me report; her name was Gina “Mr. Waldo isn’t doing too well, they put him on an oxygen mask. The canula wasn’t working for him.” That

Through my clinical experience, I learned that being able to empathize with your patient is very important in the healthcare field. The first week I was at Panorama City, I helped some CNAs turn a patient so they can change her dressing on a bedsore that she had got from another nursing home. The whole time she was fighting us, yelling at us, and scratching us.…

"Code Blue in room 12", is called over the intercom. I drop the yogurt I was preparing for another patient as I sprint down the hall to room where a 70 year old heart attack patient is beginning to turn blue. As the first nurse to arrive, I begin CPR without hesitation. 30 compressions to 2 breaths, is all that runs through my mind as I try to save the patient from cyanosis. Subconsciously I drown out my co-workers rushing into the room to join me.…

On February 4th and 5th I had an ICU rotation to 3 South at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital which is a surgical ICU unit. The unit I am usually on is 2900, which is a Cardiac ICU at the same Hospital. Both units being ICU, I wasn’t sure how much a difference there would be between the two. However, there was a big difference between the two ICUs. Of course some things were the same, such as the layout of the unit (the pods, computers, and medication rooms).…

My heart broke, and I let out a boisterous groan as the last string trimmer malfunctioned and the weedwhacker slowly churned to a stop. I had been consumed by my thoughts of planning my senior speech, crafting my life plan of becoming a nurse anesthetist, and figuring out what I wanted to eat for breakfast to notice that I was walking so rapidly that I had outworked the machine. It was a humid Sunday morning, the grass was still wet with morning dew when I had abruptly woken up and tied on my decrepit, battered, newly turned green sneakers. As I began the trek to my neighbor’s house the smell of wet grass prudently wafted into my nose. With the exception of my dad there is an evident lack of testosterone in the house with just my mom, twin sister, and I.…
