In the passage “Yes, the CIA torture report should have been released” written by Tom Keane for The Boston Globe it states “ Indeed, that’s the reason we have laws at both the federal and state levels that require government meetings be open and records made public. If we have a right to know why a restaurant was granted a liquor license, shouldn’t we also have a right to know how the CIA conducts its activities.” This piece of text is a perfect example as to why it should have been released. If we have the right to know what our army does, we get to decide whose president, and we live in a democratic country why can’t we know what our C.I.A. is doing? It’s an outrage that they think they can betray the people who fund and govern them. In the “Declaration of Independence” it states “That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, - that whenever any form of government becomes destructive at these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government.” This is a great example of how it is the people who govern. Former C.I.A. head Michael Hayden similarly worried that, ‘this will be used by our enemies to motivate people to attack Americans in American facilities overseas.’ This explains how the report would inflame other countries to attack because of what we did to their people.
