CGSOC Reflection

Decent Essays
I started CGSOC at the end of June 2015. I have completed the P910, P920, and P930, and I have just recently ended C100. Together with the other IMS, I have visited several different US official institutions, museums, and attractions. From day one I have been given a lot of advice for this year. Build connections, get friends, be social, perform academically and take care of the family. The purpose of this essay is to reflect on my experiences at CGSOC, and in this paper I will focus on the balance between my ego, my family, and school. As expected, there is not enough time to take care of myself, enough time to spend together with my wife and kids, or time to read, prepare and learn. Upon my arrival at Commonwealth Honors Academy a mere twelve days ago I was ignorant to the fact that I was going to learn so much in my time spent here, but now I look back and realize that I have gained so much knowledge and I have acquired more details to add to what I knew before arrival. Overall I have learned that most things in life require constant attention and effort to make them truly work and that anyone you come in contact with and create an influence with will then, in turn, make a larger circle of influence that can quickly become bigger than you can ever be. The universal themes that have had the largest impact on me are the themes of Happiness, Friendship, and Sovereignty of Education. It was Aristotle who defined happiness…

My first memory at North Carolina Governor’s School West is of crying next to my parents on a bench under a giant tree. It was move-in day for the five-and-a-half-week session, and I was already sure that they would be the worst weeks of my life. I was terrified; I knew no one except two students from my high school, who were rising juniors and to whom I had never spoken before. After that stressful first day, I fell asleep unsure of how I could make it on my own in a place filled with such talented, intelligent, and unfamiliar people. A week later, I knew that Governor’s School would be one of the most treasured experiences of my entire life.…

The four pillars of the National Honor Society (NHS) scholarship, service, leadership, and character and each of these pillars of NHS have shaped who I have become as not only a high school student, but as a person. Personally, school doesn’t come easy for me and I have never been able to breeze through school based solely on my intelligence. However, through my scholarship, which is a commitment and willingness to learn and study, I have been able to achieve academic excellence. Scholarship has taught me that while all things may not come without difficulty for me, but through hard work and dedication I can achieve almost anything.…

After reading a few essays by three different groups of people: The Doctors, the Nurses and the Patients. People hold different styles in almost every aspect in life such as types of music, clothing, colors, books, and films. So when it comes to different writing styles, then one can agree with that also. One just never thinks about it and with people having what they think is “good’ personal writing. Good personal Writing should include humor, graphic details, things I can relate to, and not too much gore.…

Governor’s School Last summer, I attended governor's school west where three hundred and twenty-five bright and open-minded students from all across North Carolina gathered for five and a half weeks in a college campus setting. To me, this was a big milestone in life that changed me for the better. We left our cozy lives of families and friends to start with a clean slate with strangers we’ve never seen in our lives. At first, we thought of it as a sacrifice of our summer to glamorize our college application, but throughout the program we experienced things that exceeded beyond our expectations.…

Today, June 18th, 2017, marks the last day of my first week of college at Paul Quinn College and I am proud to say, “I survived”. Committing to Paul Quinn was a really big decision for me because this school is a 17 hour drive away from my home in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. I was afraid that I might get homesick or that I would not have the support of my family because I would be so far away from home. Soon, after visiting the Dallas campus, I realized that Paul Quinn was the school for me. This is the school where I will grow as an individual and I have come to that realization in my first week of college through the many conversations with upperclassmen, faculty, alumni and summer bridge students.…

These commitments and obligations, for some students, not only took the form of concrete extracurricular activities, but also in the form of ideas like getting into college, making their family and friends proud, and getting high paying jobs. A trend for nearly all of the students was that they felt they had obligations to their family, whether stated or unstated. This took shape in many forms and this pressure added to the need the students had to do well in school. It also added to the shortcuts and tricks they developed to get the grades and make their family proud.…

Hard work and dedication had always been a song that lingered in the atmosphere of my childhood home. I am a product of immigrant parents who have worked diligently to guarantee myself the opportunity I have now. I am a nontraditional student, who like some people were forced to make difficult life decisions after the economy had plummeted, but today I stand as a Georgia State student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Managerial Science. The ability to be identified as a panther is admirable in itself, still the pride and honor that I have is the qualifications to join the Georgia State University Honor’s College.…

Why should I be selected as Homecoming Queen? It is funny that you asked. This is a question that I have asked myself since freshman year when I saw my first UNCG Homecoming.
