(1) The training began by Taylor, the CERT Peer, introducing herself. She gave a brief overview the services CERT provides and the different type of coaching sessions available for students. The module I attended focused on conflict styles. She initiated the coaching by asking how I define. I told her conflict is between two interdependent people who have a disagreement over something. She then gave me the more technical definition and asked how I view and handle conflict. Once finished responding, she started to discuss the five different conflict styles.
She defined each of the five. Taylor emphasized they have their pros and cons. After describing them she explained the two factors that influence what conflict style is used: cooperativeness and assertiveness. She then gave an example of all five conflict styles. The example she used for them revolved around two roommates deciding who should have the last orange. For example, if my roommate and I are discussing who should have the last orange and I give my friend the orange, the conflict style being used is accommodation. For example, the avoidance conflict style would not resolve the matter. The living room may never get clean until Pair A does it. Thus, I learned to consider all possible options and understanding what may be the best way to approach an issue. Additionally, the conflict discussed made me consider how Pair B might be feeling. Some styles result in a lot of progress and building relationships and others result in very little. The most effective type of conflict resolution is compromising and the least effective is forcing. That’s fine, but what isn’t is when members of my family pre-judge us and think that when they come around us they will get the you are a horrible sinner and you will go to hell speech which is something that we would not force upon them like that. That is also one of the things we went over in class was that with conflicts you disagree with the ideas and behavior, not the people.…

The Angry bird is bossy and wanted to do what he desire instead of thinking how his peer would…
