CASW Code Of Ethics Analysis

The social worker in my story failed to follow the CASW Code of Ethics of 2005 as she did not “respect the importance of the trust and confidence placed in the professional relationship by clients” (CASW,2005, p. 6), or “respect the client’s right to confidentiality of information shared in a professional context” (CASW, 2005, p.7). Although that particular social worker’s actions were not congruent with the code of ethics, my values are. I know my values are because especially after my experience, the key things outlined in the Code of Ethics of 2005, such as respecting “the importance of the trust and confidence placed in the professional relationship by clients and members of the public” (CASW, 2005, p.6 ) are very important to me.

My social work goals coincide with my values and beliefs because I hold them near and dear to my heart, and hope to always portray to other the way I wish to be treated. Empathy can help me to relate and connect with my clients and if I were ever in their shoes I would appreciate if they were to do the same for me. Communication is vital in the field of social work and in my life because without it, nothing would get accomplished. E-mailing, phoning, texting, writing and face to face communication is how social workers interact with their clients from all lifestyles and backgrounds. My goal of open and constant communication is useful in the field because social workers need to be able to employ strong communication skills to help people feel comfortable around them and having those strong skills will only make it easier for people to approach me. Lastly, my goal and value of respect is useful in the field of social work because without respect no one will open up to, trust or approach a social worker. Respecting their differences, experiences and what they bring to the table is what I strive to always do, as respect is a two way street and in order to gain the respect of others, I must also give and show respect at all
