CASA is a national organization and has offices in several states. The office that serves Collin County is located in McKinney, Texas. Cases involve several forms of child abuse, including: drug abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and abandonment . Despite the fact that a list has been given, that’s only what the children are going through. The parents also come with a heavy load. In addition to losing custody of their children (even if only temporarily), they have enough to deal with the conditions that led them to the loss of their child. These triggers often include one or more of the following: loss of employment, economic instability, poverty, drug use, and immaturity. Often times, the parents are handing off children to grandparents due to their inability to handle the responsibility of parenting a child or in many cases multiple children.
