The Resurrection Coptic Catholic Church is one of the very few churches left in New York that is from the Byzantine era. To begin with the interior of the church, you see a nave when entering. The nave is large central area or the main body of the church. The nave is where the people of the community usually gather and sit to worship Christ and have their sermon. This church also has an apse, which is a large chamber that faces the nave. This part of the churches architecture is where the altar can be found which is usually where the priest stands to deliver the sermon. In relation to the architecture of the exterior of the church, we can see columns guarding the front doors to the entrance of the church. Also seen on the church is a pediment, which is a triangular region under the roof. Another architecture I realized that this church has which is prominent in the photo is a rose window. A rose window is a large circular glass window in the center of the church.
Upon doing this assignment, I viewed other churches that were constructed during the Byzantine era and I see similar details. In the thumbnails shown below, you can see that the Resurrection Coptic Catholic Church resembles other churches during the Byzantine era. Common features include pediments, columns and a nave. Choosing to research and identify this church, truly increased my knowledge of the Byzantine
